There's also an archives shortcode (http://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/). I use the Quintus theme also and have an Archives page (http://unlikelyexplanations.com/archives/) that displays a list of all my post titles. That page is just an introductory sentence and then this code:

[archives]

I think you can probably use the archives shortcode in a text widget as well, but I've never tried it.

Whether or not full posts, permalinked or thumbnails are displayed on Categories Pages and Archives pages is theme dependent ie. it's coded into the template and we cannot edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

In the majority of themes, posts on category or other archive pages show up just as they do on the main posts page in the blog and the number displayed is also the same. (See this page > Settings > Reading and note how many posts you choose there sets it for all). But in some themes only the beginnings of posts are shown, and in a few themes you only get titles or thumbnails. I use the quintus theme. I am wondering if in my archive menu under each month a title of my articles can be listed rather than the number of articles in that month.

When I check out a blog I like to look at the archives. The titles to the articles in the archives give me a good idea what the author focus is and wether or not the blog is of interest to me. I would like that same feature so that those who click on my blog can see if there is an article of interest.

They probably won't send a notification, but I'm not 100% sure. Basically, you'll know when you see your blog at the domain. Assuming you've mapped the domain already.

OK, Earthlink says the name server is in the hopper and will be completed between 24-72 hours. I found the rest of the instructions, thanks. Um, dumb question, but how will I know when the change is completed? Is there an e-mail or something?

The name server changes are made through your domain registrar. If you have any trouble, you'll need to ask them for help with that.

Got it! Oh God, but I feel so empowered when I don't totally screw things up!
NEXT QUESTION: I want to take my severnwriter.com domain from Earthlink and use that as my address with wordpress. Earthlink says I can "point the domain to wordpress be getting the DNS server from wordpress."
Like I have any idea what that means. I read the domain mapping information, but I started hyperventilating as I read. How do I get a DNS, and what do I do when I get one?

http://severnwriter.wordpress.com/ already exists, and you cannot change a blog's address to one that already exists.

Instead, you can transfer your content by exporting/importing from the Tools section of the blogs' Dashboards.

And today's problem is ----
I want to move my blog to another address. I tried to move it to severnwriter.wordpress.com using the My Blogs tool, but I got a message that the site is already reserved. I know it is; it's mine. So I created a new blog: Fransevern.wordpress.com and tried to transfer franstravels to it. Same message. OK, I'm slow, but I now get it: I can't move things to an existing blog. At least not without deleting that blog and starting over, which is getting 'way out of my abilites and comfort zone.
So, Oh gurus of the gigabyte, how do I move franstravels to fransevern.wordpress.com?

I'm not sure I made myself clear. When someone clicks on the category at the top of the home page, there's a drop down of titles in that category. Right now, only 5 or so titles show up, and people have to hit the "older posts" arrow to see another 5 or so. I don't want the full posts or excerpts to appear there, just more of the titles. Especially since with just that small handful showing up, the rest of the page is blank and it looks somewhat as though there are no more posts (unless they notice the "older posts" arrow).

Can I set the number of posts listed under each category? Currently, it shows about 5 titles, with an arrow for "older posts." I would like to expand that. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere, but darned if I can find it!

Create an About static page and put whatever you want on it and publish it, then under Settings->General (or it might be Reading) set the blog to open on that particular static page.

As for 2) just publish regular posts and they'll go on the Blog page and be sure and use categories. If you want to get extra fancy, read this: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/

OK, the separate Testimonial page worked! (It may seem obvious to you, Hon, but for me to figure this out is a major accomplishment!)
Last question for the night: I want my Home page to become the About page. Don't want the latest blog to show up; want it to be a static page with an intro to me and my business.
1) How do I do this?
2) I want to create a "latest articles" page(?) where the new blogs will appear. They can be cross-referenced and archived by category. How do I set that up? Right now, they are automatically published on the Home page.
It's probably very simple, but I am so brain-fried after working on this all day, my eyes are no longer focusing. No great rush to answer; I won't be around tomorrow or Sunday.

how can I hide a post? I am moving testimonials from LinkedIn to a Testimonials category, but I don't want them showing up in the blog. I only want them to be visible when someone clicks and the entries drop dow.The plug ins I've found are old and not working, and the other instructions are all about coding. Yeah, right. It may as well be Urdu. Any suggestions?

However, I may just create the fransevern.wordpress site. I've found the directions on how to move everything from franstravels to fransevern. Still chewing on that.

re: making my e-mail live. Thanks for the warning, but I am willing to take the risk. Studies have shown repeatedly that people hate those contact forms. When a prospective customer wants to contact someone, they want to hit the e-mail or make a phone call, not fill out a form or cut and paste an address.

AND TODAY"S QUESTION IS:
how do I delete the content from a blog site? My plan is to move everything to the severnwriter site, so that franstravels is not the address I am using with business clients. There is some stuff there that needs to go away, so the transfer is to an empty site. The support area says I should contact a Happiness Engineer -- like you! Kindly guide me, oh Guru of Happiness.

Also, can you check to see who has reserved fransevern.com? I actually have that as a web address, but I thought WordPress was separate. Is fransevern.wordpress.com the same as http://www.fransevern.com?

1. I don't recommend that, active email links are actually how most spam bots collect email addresses. Instead, use a contact form: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

3. Even if you set a static front page, the page you set as your blog page will be fully functional, just as it was on the front page.

Another question, which I think I know the answer to, but I am sooooo hoping I am wrong.
I want to change the URL of my blog. I'm setting it up as a business blog and want to change franstravels to just fransevern. I've already reserved that name. I have a sinking feeling that I am going to have to set up that site separately and manually move everything from franstravels to fransevern, right? Any magic way to import/transfer it?
