We cannot edit the theme PHP script files here at WordPress.com and that is where the change would have to be made, and PHP cannot be used in the CSS. CSS is a styling document used by the browser to position and style the various HTML elements of a page.

The full/summary setting at settings > reading is for the RSS feed, not for the site itself.

You may want to try using the excerpt feature. Open a post in the editor, switch to the "text" tab, copy all of the text and code there and then paste it into the excerpt module in the post editor and update the post. Visit the front page of your site and see if the full post is shown. If the post is unchanged, then that means that Sight does not support the excerpt feature for the main page of the blog.

The Sight theme seems to come automatically with all posts (even the most recent) showing up only as excerpts. I'd like all to be shown with their full text on my front page and tried to copy <?php the_content(); ?> based on another forum I found into CSS. It didn't work, and I've already tried checking and unchecking "Full Text" and "Summary" under the Settings > Reading tab as well. No luck. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Here is the blog I'm referring to: http://nonrandomevolution.wordpress.com

When you get to the home page, it shows all my posts in full form. I do not want the posts fully "open," rather I'd like the first paragraph or just a few sentences, whatever, showing when you get to my page. A summary as it were. I'd like people to have to click a button which says, say, "Click here to continue reading..." so it takes them to the actual page of the post where they can comment and like, etc.

So, I went to Settings > Reading, and I found an option stating,

"For each article in a feed, show (Full text) (Summary)."

So, last night, I clicked on summary, saved it, and went to my home page only to find that the full post was still showing.

My question, then, is this: What do I need to do make this so?

Hi there,
You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed go here > Settings > Reading
and choose the "summary" setting for your RSS feed or the "full text".

That does not affect the length of the post displayed on the front page or main page for posts on the blog. To create excerpts there we can split content by inserting "the more tag" http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

You might clear your browser cache and then take another look. Sometimes it can take a little while for the change to show up, but typically less than an hour.

Some feed readers (Google reader, etc.) though may not update until after you publish a new post. Most don't do anything until they see new content and even then sometimes it may take a little while for them to refresh the entire feed in their indexes.

This isn't a CSS editing question as this can be done without the custom design upgrade on all themes here. You can truncate your blog entries by splitting content so that only the first part of certain posts is displayed on the home and archive pages. When you do this, a link will be placed directly after your excerpt, pointing the reader to the full post. See "the more tag"
