You're welcome and like I said, Mixfolio is a highly misunderstood theme!

Just to let you know, you don't need to use the Gallery Post Format to use the Gallery/Image Carousel. You just need to insert a Gallery in your post following these instructions http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/ and making sure that the Image Carousel is enabled on your site (which it is).

And Mixfolio also seems to only use the default thumbnail grid display regardless of what you choose in the "type" box in the Media Handler.

Thanks for looking into this for me - much appreciated!

I don't mind having a different icon appearing on my featured image on the home page, but the main issue is that if I use any other post format other than 'Gallery', I can't seem to get the images in the post displayed in the carousel Slideshow - which was one of the main features of the theme I really liked.

When I try using, e.g. the Image post format, only one image displays on the 'image' tab of my post, other images appear on the 'info' tab of my post and the carousel does not feature.

I do like that all the images on the home page are constrained to a standard size. In my posts, some images are displayed as taller/wider than others - which seems be the reason for the gaps (even when all my uploaded images exactly the same size). I tried adjusting the thumbnail picture size to the original 150 pixels but still seem to be getting gaps.

Maybe this is just something I can't change?

Unfortunately, Mixfolio seems to be a highly misunderstood theme. It's inner workings have baffled users since it's introduction.

I'm only interested in using the Gallery post format

Post Formats only affect how the post is displayed on the front page of your site. In Mixfolio, this is less critical, unless you really want the Gallery icon to appear on the featured image rather than a Standard post icon. More on Post Formats here http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/

As far as lining up your photos, I would suggest reducing the overall width of the thumbnail images being inserted from 300 pixels to something smaller. (The standard size for thumbnails is 150 pixels wide.) You can change this setting under Dashboard>Settings>Media Settings>Image Sizes. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/media-settings/#image-sizes

Changing this number won't affect the size of the featured image on the front page of your site.

Good luck.

Hi, I found someone else who was having a similar problem as me but the solution given didn't really work for me.

I am using the Mixfolio theme, and inserting a gallery into each post. However, the gallery's thumbnails aren't lining up three across. Some rows have three thumbnails, some have two and some only have one.

I have tried different sized thumbnails, standardising the size of all images before uploading, rearranging the order, changing the alignment etc. but nothing seems to work. I'm only interested in using the Gallery post format, rather than any other type of post format.

Please let me know if you have any ideas on what I could try, thanks very much in advance!

@zandyring - I'm glad the issue is being addressed. The navigation on image Attachment pages has always been "iffy" since one could use "includes/excludes" to create a Gallery. The ease of Gallery creation now only amplified it.

@zandyring - Only hypothetical but entirely possible with the new media handling.

You've already answered with your reply above. Since it is now possible to select already uploaded and attached images to create a Gallery, if in addition users select the Gallery post format, according to your explanation above, then they will not get the expected front page display for the Gallery post format (thumbnail image and accompanying text).

But beyond that there's an additional difficulty in using previously uploaded images in a Gallery if users have chosen to link their Gallery thumbnails to the image Attachment page. The Attachment page navigation is tortuous because clicking on a Gallery thumbnail brings the viewer to the Attachment page in the post where the image was originally uploaded and attached and not the current post. The only way I can see to get around this difficulty is to always and only use the Photo Carousel. I'd love to be wrong on this one.

Hi Greg,

I'm happy we're exceeding your expectations!

Here's what happened: if you made a gallery and uploaded the images when you made the gallery/post, then your gallery will have a thumbnail image. If you pulled them over from the media gallery, then it won't.

You can fix this. You'll want to go to your media libary (Dashboard > Media). Toggle to "Unattached" view, and select all the checkboxes for the gallery in question. You'll see a pull-down box with "bulk actions" in it - scroll down to "attach to a post" (you won't see that option if you're not in "unattached" view!)

Then click "apply" and you will be given a list of posts to attach them to. Select the appropriate post, and complete.

You should then be able to see the thumbnail image as you expected to.

This is something we're working on fixing, but in the meantime, you'll want to ensure that those gallery images get attached to posts (you can use this method, or upload them from your computer rather than uploading to the media gallery first).

Let me know if this isn't clear or if you need further help!

Currently, some themes assume there can be only one gallery per post and that every image in the gallery must be attached to the current post. This is no longer a safe assumption now that there can be multiple galleries per post that can pull images from any other post. Themes that assume a 1:1 gallery/image to post mapping need to be updated.

I know you've improved the way media is added -- but to this point the improvements haven't actually improved anything. Now when I add photos to a blog post, the photos automatically load at the top of the post and I have to manually put them in the right place. Now the captions no longer appear.

How can I implement these improvements in such a way that they actually improve adding new media? How can I add photos where I want them to be placed in the blog? And how can get the captions I add to appear as captions?

And a third issue, which I addressed in an early request for support, is that when you create an image gallery, wordpress no longer automatically includes a photo on the landing page.

My blog is at gregfallis.com. Thanks so much.

Well, it seems that may be this is due on mixfolio to the fact that my post was in "gallery" mode. If we choose "standard" mode, there is no problem in setting the right number of columns and in the arrangement (no blank spaces). I got the clue in this topic :
http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/mixfolio-help-with-gallery-thumbnails?replies=16
Thanks to a french moderator.
But yet the problem stills, i mean the bug still exists. We can use the default format but it can't be a correct solution.

Closed.

Hi everybody, first here is the blog (mixfolio theme) address : balayn.wordpress.com and the place for the post :
http://balayn.wordpress.com/2012/07/26/heiva-2012-hao-soiree-miss-mister/

i have created this post in gallery format. I inserted my images and my gallery is created. I have asked for 4 columns. When i visualize the post, in the 'info' tab i see the text + the thumbnails with 4 columns indeed. But in the 'gallery' tab i only see 3 columns ! (and no text). In addition, as you can see, all the thumbnails are not well positionned. I mean there are some 'holes' ! Whereas all the pics are shown. Nothing missing. They are just not placed correctly. I hope you understand what i mean in my approximate english. Do you have an idea ? Thank you advance.
