Hi there, it looks like both domains ridwanmao.com to 10kpoems.com are already mapped to 10kpoems.wordpress.com.

You can see those settings under Store > My Upgrades here:

https://10kpoems.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

Both these domains will bring folks to your site, with 10kpoems.com set as the primary domain that visitors will see in their address bar.

I just registered 10kpoems.com.

Can I transfer the domain mapping from ridwanmao.com to 10kpoems.com for the blog 10kpoems.wordpress.com?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "go to the Store and make sure you have the domain registration and mapping for ridwanmao.com set so they will not auto renew." So far I've registered the new domain name, and in the domains section under store I have 3 domains listed (10kpoems.com, ridwanmao.com, and 10kpoems.wordpress.com)

then post back in this thread asking the staff to transfer the domain mapping from ridwanmao.com to 10kpoems.com for the blog 10kpoems.wordpress.com (this is the correct blog? right)

Please be very clear in the request - the request needs to come from your account - then add "modlook" to the Tag list - that will flag it for the staff - I have also subscribed to this thread so I will see any replies to it if you have any trouble I can flag it or help (getting close to my bed time)

Don't delete anything -

Register & map the new name 10kpoems.com to the proper base blog - that can be the same blog as ridwanmao.com is mapped to.

Select 10kpoems.com as the Primary Domain when you do the mapping - the will change the Primary Domain away from ridwanmao.com if you map to the same base blog - 10kpoems.wordpress.com

Then go to the Store and make sure you have the domain registration and mapping for ridwanmao.com set so they will not auto renew. You should be able to let ridwanmao.com just go off into oblivion - should not hurt anything -

There is another option since your site does not look like it has any content in it - have you sent out the domain name ridwanmao.com to anyone? Do you care if the domain goes into oblivion now? If not then after you buy 10kpoems.com we can ask the staff to transfer the domain mapping to 10kpoems.com and save you $ 13.-- if they transfer it (I am sure they would)

You can map more than one domain name to the same WordPress.COM blog but you can only have one domain name as the primary

The page you are looking at is for changing the WordPress.COM based name (your-site.wordpress.com to your-new-site.wordpress.com) - that is not needed if you have a mapped domain name

As I stated back on my other question about the picture not uploading, well I got another problem. This time, it deals with the emails.

There are two places in wordpress that use email addresses. We got the admin email, and the other email address. Problem is, I want notifications about people commenting on my blog, or somebody answering a question here on support sent to my admin email address. It is located in the dashboard in settings>general.

Now there is another email address that has, "will not be publicly displayed" on the right side. When you log in, you have the primary blog with the email address and the other stuff appear the moment you log in. Now, when timethief replied to a previous question that dealt with the picture, I got a notification sent to my other email, not the email used as admin.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Or did I do something wrong when I changed the email address for the one with "will not be publicly displayed".

Hmmm... So I remove the premium theme, you transfer the content across to wordpress.org hosted by hostgator, I reinstall the premium theme on wordpress.org and... the content then automatically slots into the parameters of the theme (with current CSS adjustments) and looks exactly as it does now?

If it's that easy, certainly!

Thanks for this.

I've spoken with the premium theme provider, studio press, and they are happy to supply the premium theme (free) for my self hosted blog. Does that change things? Would a happiness engineer be happier assisting with the premium theme available :-)

If not, I'm just wondering how complicated and fraught with dangers the transfer process is for an individual who is not very good with computers?

Am I better off just starting again from scratch, installing wordpress from wordpress.org on my hosting provider (hostgator.com), getting my theme from studio press and building the site the way I built my current one?

You can transfer your content and redirect your domain elsewhere at any time. It's just transferring the domain name to a new registrar that is locked prior to 60 days by law.

You'll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider. We have some recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/

Then, point your domain to your new hosting provider by changing your name servers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

After 60 days from registration, you can transfer your domain registration to a new registrar if you desire: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/

Once the name servers are changed, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:

Hi there, you are using a premium theme on http://thebenconnorpetridish.wordpress.com/

The Guided Transfer product is not currently available for blogs that use premium themes. To purchase a Guided Transfer, please switch to a free theme first (we'll transfer that theme for you). Or you can transfer your WordPress.com blog elsewhere by following these steps: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

I signed up for a wordpress.com domain/blog mid September. A few weeks ago I realised that to do what I want to do I require self-hosting. I tried to transfer my content with the assistance of the happy... transfer people and was told this option was not available to me.

I then read that in the first 60 day of registering a blog you can not transfer it. Will i be able to use the happy transfer service once 60 days have passed?

Hello, under the wedding templates offered page (http://weddings.wordpress.com/), among the many features listed is one to be able to password protect my site. I am currently using the theme "Forever" but am unable to password protect my site (other than making it private and inviting users - that is not the route I would like to go). How can I add a password to my site?

Thanks!
