To answer the question, it is Firefox who is the problem. I also have the same and I couldn't find any solution till I roleback firefox to 15.0 and it worked!

Since your custom CSS is not stored in that original location, all the relative urls will not work. This is one of the reasons you want to put into the stylesheet, only the specific selectors, and only the specific declarations you are changing or adding. This also makes it much easier to keep track of what you have changed when you go back in to make changes later.

FYI, your problem above was that the images were referenced in the stylesheet like so:

images/red/button.png

So you'd need to replace them all with:

http://s1.wp.com/wp-content/themes/premium/magazine/images/red/button.png

Basically putting the full URL to the various images. However as timethief above says, you only need to enter the styles you want to override rather than the entire stylsheet.

I don't help with CSS but I do know when you alter a theme’s stylesheet, you only need to put in the Editor the modification/additions to the CSS, not the entire thing.

My understanding is that studio press themes ARE wordpress themes for purchase but WP won't let you use them?

Are there any clear tutorials out their? The tut that studiopress provides is obviously not correct if WP won't allow any themes to be uploaded via ftp or under the appearance section.

To activate a theme, visit your WordPress.com dashboard and go to Appearance > Themes, find the theme, and click Activate.

Short answer: To use genesis framework, you would have to self-host a wordpress blog somewhere like godaddy, bluehost, etc.
