I agree with you. It's time for WordPress.com to provide a means for us to do this. The Author link is being considered in seach engine page ranking and in positioning of our posts in the SERPs (search engine page results).

Neri, I would suggest waiting for a while and then try it again. Leave the window with the google page open and logged in so you do not have to regenerate another code. I've seen times when I've been trying to verify sites with Google and I've had to try several times over a day before I could get it verified. The Google servers sometimes get loaded and their queues get stacked up (what I think is happening) and it just takes a while for them to get caught up.

This is the first time I've ever used the forums for support. My apologies for the unorthodoxed approach.

It is regarding the following WordPress site: http://www.jonathanwmartinez.com
I had been using 2-step verification as a security method for my Google accounts and WordPress account. However I disabled it in my Google account associated with the above site for personal reasons. I did not disable it directly in WordPress security settings, thus like everyone else here...

Am locked out of my account. I am in the exact same situation as the above members.

This is not strictly a WordPress problem but I'm not sure where else to find the answer. I'm working on a site at 2013event.wordpress.com and have used domain mapping to point it to http://www.indiepressday.com. (The domain is registered with Network Solutions.)

The mapping is working fine. But when you do a Google search for "Indie Press Day", the search result in Google has garbage under it. (Search for it with quotes and you get "Online College Courses · Free Credit Report · Health Insurance · Best Mortgage Rates · Top Smart Phones · Top 10 Luxury Cars · Cheap Air Tickets · Migraine ...", search for it without quotes and you get "Indiepressday.com is COMING SOON to REGISTER.COM · Indiepressday.com Whois Lookup. Hot Favorites. Online College Courses · Free Credit Report ...")

It's been more than a week and this has not changed to reflect the text on my homepage. If you do a Google search for 2013event.wordpress (which no one would ever do, but just for the sake of comparison) the description does display the content on my landing page.

Anyone know what I could do to fix this? Since Google seems to be pulling the indiepressday.com description from Network Solutions and not my WordPress.com site, I'm not sure if anything I do on the site is going to make a difference? But all I've done so far at Network Solutions is point the dns entries to WordPress, it's not like I have a site with them that I can edit.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I manage 2 WordPress.com blogs: meeg.org and eaunritchie.org - both on behalf of other people. (Dustin and Ean, respectively).

I have just noticed that my name (Nick) appears in Google search results for either site.

I don't want my name to appear as the 'author' of these blogs. I would prefer no author, or (at least) Dustin / Eaun.

An odd problem -

I changed my URL from a wordpress.com to another wordpress.com site yesterday. I then subcribed to the URL redirect service too, which is working really well.

But -

When my blog posts via the new URL come up in Google, they all read like this

About | Trickster.Trickster. - Get a Free Blog
trickstertricks.wordpress.com/about/
21 hours ago – Trickster.Trickster. Seoul: Essential previews & listings. ...

So everything on Google has that 'Get a free blog' addendum, which doesn't look too great, and it's something that never showed up with my old URL posts on Google. How can I remove the addendum? Thank you.

That's where I have to respectfully disagree - I think it's WordPress that need to adapt.

Authorship is an increasingly important part of search, and search is as important as ever. You can't blame Google for not doing all the work for you - they have their own blogging platform after all, where I imagine such things are easier to arrange.

I've been waiting patiently for a year for WordPress to catch up to this, (as the workaround above doesn't work for multi-user blogs) and I hope they will.

Authorship is an important enough thing to allow those of us with only a basic knowledge of the web to get access to, from within the wonderful framework that is wordpress.com.

Hopefully they'll agree with me eventually!

Apologies sjkhayes I must have missed the notification. Hi Claireuni.

Basically you need a theme that supports the inclusion of a text widget (go appearances -- widgets and look for a Text Box option).

Then you need to put a link to your G+ profile with the rel=author after it. To get an example with a logo you want to do something like this:

<br />
<a href="https://plus.google.com/111599604216232194300" rel="author"><span style="display:inline-block;font-weight:bold;vertical-align:top;margin-right:5px;margin-top:8px;">Mike Horner</span><span style="display:inline-block;vertical-align:top;margin-right:15px;margin-top:8px;">on</span><img style="border:0;width:32px;height:32px;" src="https://ssl.gstatic.com/images/icons/gplus-32.png" alt="" /></a><br />

Obviously that looks worse than it is, you only have to change the name to your name and the G+ Profile number to your own.

This will create a link to your G+ profile with the rel=author attribute on every page of your blog. Test is with Google's Rich Snippets Testing Tool and the rest should write itself.

Hope it helps.
