Thanks for the response macmanx :)

Absolutely, I've provided the licensing information in the Style.css as per the practices recommended on WordPress.org. This simply states the following:

License: GNU General Public License v2.0
License URI: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.html

Are there any store requirements beyond this for denoting the licensing, such as a license.txt or similar within the theme, or will this cover it?

By way of some extra details...

Theme URL: http://clients.fgsd.com.au/eportfolio/ (Includes sample data used for unit tests)

Theme Support Page: http://www.teachertechnologies.com/projects/eportfolio/

Why on WordPress.com? : Many Australian teachers use wordpress.com for their professional blogs and would like to start using their blogs as eportfolios. The Australian Institute for Teaching & School Leadership (AITSL) will be asking teachers to collate evidence that their current practice measures up against the new National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPSfT). This theme is designed to help teachers use the WordPress.com platform to do just that.

It needs to be available in the WordPress store as most teachers have a WordPress.com account rather than a self-hosted blog. If it is not in the store I currently have no way of sharing this helpful theme with them.

As you can imagine, it has taken a fair bit of time to develop this theme, as such I'd like this to be incorporated as a premium offering that I can recoup my development costs from.

Many thanks, Matt

Hey all,

I have been developing a theme which I'd like to be able to distribute to users of wordpress.com.

I have gone through and passed the appropriate unit tests advised on WordPress.org (both manually & using theme-check) and have ensured my theme is W3C compliant.

I can't for the life of me find an appropriate contact point on wordpress.com, or instructions on how I can go about distributing my theme as a paid product in the theme store (or if this is even possible!).

Is there anyone with some experience in this area that could assist me at all? I'd be hugely grateful for any constructive advice.

Many thanks, Matt

Thanks for the reply. I hit the Help button, and from what I can tell, it appears that in order for a human being to respond to a question, I need to upgrade my membership. Otherwise, I am not entitled to more than a search of topics. Does that sound right?

The answer is simple, and NOT the answer given by jtanna01, since you're not reproducing the software, you're reproducing the THEME.

Contact staff via your Dashboard Help button. It is almost certain that they will give you the green light. Staff are able to contact the theme author directly, and they are more aware of the terms under which WP.com uses themes than a regular blogger would be. You might already have that right. In any case, they can clear things up and they are very supportive of authors here.

I'm writing a book which is being published this winter. One of the chapters concerns networking, and I would like to reproduce one or two of my WordPress pages as examples of how WordPress can be an effective way to put yourself and your work out there. Since I am using a theme credited to someone else and the TOS doesn't give me the right to reproduce, I need to know who to contact for permission to reproduce screenshots for the book. I have been unable to find any phone numbers, and don't know whether or not I have to get separate permission from Brian Veluso (creator of Chaotic Soul, the background) or just one permission from the folks at WorldPress.

Any help would be appreciated. I would hate to have to omit this stuff from the book.

Thanks,

Jim

Twenty Eleven, like WordPress and all of the themes available on http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ , is released under the GPL license, meaning you are free to modify it as you wish. For more information on the license, you can have a look at WordPress.org License page: http://codex.wordpress.org/License

Please note: If you are modifying a WordPress.com blog, you may edit the header and background. If you have the Custom Design upgrade, you can edit the CSS and fonts. If you would like to edit the actual template files, then you would need a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead.
