Last Sunday I posted to my blog and got a couple of 'Likes'. Later that day the 'Likes' had mysteriously vanished. Now, it may be that the 'Likers' had changed their minds (if that is possible) but its never happened before. I know that at least one of my followers wouldn't do that.
Could a hacker be at work here? Or is a bug on WP to blame. Either way, it did nothing for my fragile self-esteem. 😞

HI , thanks in advance to everyone who contributes here. I have had a blog with wordpress for the last 4-5 years now , the address is puchoo.wordpress.com

i tried in logging in today and noticed that the password was not being accepted , the forgot password utility is also not helping because i think the hacker has changed the email id as well.

I have had to create a separate account just to be able to post this.

Can anyone advise me on what i can do to get the blog back , if you visit the link , the top most post , one of those typical 'I made money...' has been posted by the hacker.

the broad sameness…..
by Kirsten Dinesen

The great river-courses which have shaped the lives of men have hardly changed; and those other streams, the life-currents that ebb and flow in human hearts, pulsate to the same great needs, the same great loves and terrors. As our thought follows close in the slow wake of the dawn, we are impressed with the broad sameness of the human lot, which never alters in the main headings of its history--hunger and labour, seed-time and harvest, love and death.

Sunday...I posted a series of photographs....with a Title...and a quote...I received a comment from a friend along with several 'likes' from my followers. About 2 hours after the initial post....I noticed the Title had changed....when I looked further...the quote and even the comment had been changed....

At first, I thought I was loosing my mind...because...the Title...the quote and even the comment....though they were different from the original text...they all seemed to fit well with the photographs.

After a little while had passed...I again noticed....There was another NEW...Title, quote and different comment (even though it was the same person as posted the original comment) I freaked....and finally deleted the post...and made all of my previous posts PRIVATE.....changed my password and deleted my links to Facebook Twitter and Pinterest.... As of this writing...I have posted 2 new posts....and made public one of my old posts....in an effort to see if this mystery continues....so far all is well.... Has anyone else heard of this happening....and if so, can this type of activity be prevented in the future??? I am very nervous about using Word Press right now...any insight you may share would be GREATLY appreciated..

Thank you for your reply. I feel secure with WP, it's whether or not the public will feel safe submitting information to me via it. If that makes sense :)

My site should be live by the end of the week in which readers will be submitting stories to me, I just want to ensure my site won't get hacked and the information they provide will be safe and secure. This is why I was curious about a SSL certificate, but now I am curious if I can use it on my site, as I am using the the free version of WP. I bought a domain but have not paid for the upgrade. I am thinking that's now another question.

How secure are wordpress sites

I guess the official answer should be obvious. They are as secure as possible. All the security measures taken thus far like not allowing JS or HTML codes on Forums should be indicative of how secure WP is!!!.

As to your other matters like where to buy SSL certificates etc, I guess your registrar should be your first "port of call". However, how are you going to incorporate it on WP blogs is something I don't know because there isn't much you can do on these blogs.

WP started a free service and it is only recently, slowly but surely, they are developing it as a true business model to monetize all the 75 million people currently using the system.

Hope this proves useful but I am sure you will get somebody who will have a different answer to mine..

Therefore if I believe correctly it is law that my site be secure from hackers, etc. who can access their information. How secure are wordpress sites and can anyone recommend where to buy an SSL certificate and how to add it to my site.

A friend of mine on wordpress came to me this morning with several concerns about her wordpress.com site. Unfortunately, I can't find the answers that she needs. She found a shortened link in the dashboard of her blog. I was able to use link expander, and found the link to be - "http://plugin.name/hotsting Jumbo. info."(without spaces) My friend also feels that the dashboard of her blog looks unusual? I did a bit of research on the plugin, however, I can't determine whether this is a mysql injection, if someone is trying to operate her blog from another location using cloud service on a Linux. Or possibly this is common on wordpress? Personally, I have had my blog over a year and I've never seen anything like this on my blog. We have all had issues with a hacker as of late, that's why this is so suspicious. Can anyone help? I feel very uncomfortable knowing a link shortening site (trunc) was used before posting this link/plugin.

If your site was "hacked" and someone getting your password is not normally considered "hacked" but just password theft and they changed the site such that it was suspended then you have two problems - however as @TT has indicated above - you need to work with the Staff directly to resolve either problems - nobody in the forum can fix your password nor return a suspended blog - you should also review the links to see if you were really in violation of the TOS and if so then you should move to a WordPress.ORG install.

I’m sorry but this is not a matter for posting to a public forum. We Volunteers answering support questions have no role to play in this process. This is between you and Staff. As you have you contacted Staff by using the “click here to contact us” link in the notice, the ToS department definitely received your request. Please be patient as they’ll be getting back to you as soon as they can.

This is with regards to another blog I own and write http://canonburyantiques.wordpress.com/

I am locked out of the site as my password has been changed. Someone (the hacker) has emailed me telling me they have changed the password by hacking in.

I have contacted wordpress support but they have not got back to me. They told me to change my email password which I did but since then they have not replied.

Is there anyway I can regain access to my blog as I use it for our business?

thanks
Martin
