The only “hacked” sites I have seen here have been people getting the password somehow to a site so you do want to be careful how you log in and use a tough password.

You should also check to make sure that someone has not added a new user to your site. Problems have also happened when there was more than one Admin. and an Admin left on less than graceful terms.

Dashboard >> Users

Many times a users email is hacked or the password guessed and the email account is used to get access by requesting a password reset – you need to change your email password and make sure they nobody has been added to your email account.

You should also run a virus check on you PC to make sure your PC does not have a security issue that has compromised your email or WordPress.COM log-in information (also your bank etc. if you do online banking or retirement accounts)

There have also been a few Posts on “hacked” sites and it was because someone got the Post by Email address and using the Post by Email to send in new Posts, if you have Post by email disable the Post by Email and regenerate the address. Spammers have scripts the generate email addresses and they sometimes can get a valid address for a Post by Email address.

If you are really concerned you could as the staff to look at your site: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

You could also use a secure log-in in case you are on an unsecured link: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

[my blog's title]+[category title/specific post title/one instance of my username]

Each term registers between one and six page views per term.

I've never seen this before and it's concerning me. Am I being hit up by some kind of spider or is it an attempt at hacking my site?

Complete strangers have gotten into my blog and started posting under the usernames "kolvalsky09" and "kramalooma25." They have not, redirected the site's urls however. I've considered using iPage's own site-cleaning service, but the cost is too high. What should I do?

I've read instructions on this subject, which I found here at FAQ My Site Was Hacked and some of the linked posts. I've changed the password both on iPage and on WordPress, as well as the secret key. Now I'm not sure what to do. I know that I should update my version of WordPress, but beyond that I'm not sure.
I do not have any pre-hack files of my SQL databases. iPage's "Backups and Restore" tool explicitly says "You will not be able to use this tool to automatically restore SQL databases." I have a few other questions:
1. Would it be too complicated just to copy the html code of my posts, delete everything, and then start building over again by pasting the posts to their respective days?
2. Are the hackers' codes usually hidden in the posts themselves or in the themes?
3. Just how useful is the "Backups and Restore" tool anyway?

i tried in logging in today and noticed that the password was not being accepted , the forgot password utility is also not helping because i think the hacker has changed the email id as well.

I have had to create a separate account just to be able to post this.

Can anyone advise me on what i can do to get the blog back , if you visit the link , the top most post , one of those typical 'I made money...' has been posted by the hacker.

Macmanx, thanks for your input. If you've visited my jmnartsy blog, you will notice that there are no replies to any comments; this is the way I prefer it. I reply to comments via my hotmail email account directly to each commenter's email address; that is what I was referring to. In other words, a hack!

From where I'm sitting, someone who knows what they're doing has done this as my hotmail account is fine (it too is an HTTPS connection). However, this did prompt my memory as I had noticed, just on that blog, recently one or two spam comments that were using text directly from my Gravatar profile. I had dismissed this and had deleted those spam comments, but since then have updated the profile as I had forgotten that I'd placed my hotmail email address there as a public email. I have now removed that address and also added another verified services link (my Google+ profile) and refreshed a few other elements therein. I trust this will solve the problem and thank the engineer who provided this very important prompt -- never give out any personal details online, ever!

Recently I had received some Likes on both my blogs and a Follow on one blog from a certain WordPress blogger. As I like to check out new Likers/Followers of my posts/blogs, I clicked onto his gravatar which brought up the usual information including a link to his WordPress blog. I clicked onto that particular link (ie open in a new tab) and after a few nanoseconds received a message from my security software with the usual message that this was a malicious website and dangerous page and has been reported as an online scammer and not to proceed, which I didn't. I use an HTTPS connection for both blogs.

I made a private Support request via the online page re how to remove gravatars and Likes from such WordPress bloggers, and eventually received a reply from one of the engineers saying they thought it might be a false-positive, and asking for a screenshot of the message. I have not sent it and reply here instead:

I have been using my security software for nearly two years. It is corporate-strength, bank-strength software which has zapped out of existence some viruses and many spywares. No false-positives so far. I trust this software. Knowing its name is not relevant.

Since receiving the email from the WordPress engineer, all the other strange things that I have posted about tonight have been happening. That malcious website person is still Liking my images; however, now all that appears in the gravatar is a picture of him and some text, nothing else any more!

I have noticed on my frequent other visits to WordPress blogs many such spam gravatars and wonder:

a) How can they remain in force without any verification, or any other obvious information re who they are?
and
b) WordPress needs to institute a way of removing such spam gravatars and Likes from such 'people'. Pronto.
and
c) Where do they come from? I.E. do they become part of a spambot ring targeting particular blogs?

I am a fervent supporter of WordPress and also a paying customer, for both my blogs.

This looks like a pingback to me, but how has it happened?

There was also one comment reply appearing on my jmnartsy blog, which was a direct copy of an emailed reply I made to someone else's comments!! I have deleted it.

What is going on, guys?

I don't see any usual activity on your blog, just a few images deleted 10 days ago a post delete 5 days ago, and no recent edits.

Usually, if someone gains access to your blog by guessing your password, they do much more than that.

Can you give us a link to one of the posts with the strange changes?

Hello,

A couple weeks ago, I noticed there was a post added to my blog that I did not write. It was saved in draft form and was not "published" to my main page/blog. I also got a stange e-mail stating that I (my full name) was now "following" my own blog/website.

Now, I'm noticing some strange changes/apprearances to some of the text in my site. For example, quotation marks are now changed to unregonizable symbols and somtimes the text is completely cut off or just looks strange in some of my earlier posts.

How do I go about correcting/fixing these issues?

Thanks, Jerry
