You probably haven't been hacked. You probably invited someone to be an Admin of the blog who has fooled you into thinking he's your friend. Then he deleted those posts, and lied about it to you. This happens a LOT with CP blogs, because 1) the users are mostly kids, who are easily tricked by nasty adults 2) there is apparently some money to be made by being a "big cheese" on CP, and this guy wants to get it by taking out all the competition 3) CP blogs often have entire teams of Admins, any of whom can delete not just the posts, but the entire blog.

I will flag this for staff attention and they can find out who deleted the posts. In the meanwhile, look in the Trash folder of the Posts page on your dashboard.

Hello there.
I've been helping this website out recently and I find out that all of our posts and data etc has been deleted. We've asked everyone who is on the site about it and haven't gotten a clue who it could have been. The thing is, is it a program malfunction or have we been really hacked and is there anyway to get data that has been permanently deleted be restored?
Thanks.

Complete strangers have gotten into my blog and started posting under the usernames "kolvalsky09" and "kramalooma25." They have not, redirected the site's urls however. I've considered using iPage's own site-cleaning service, but the cost is too high. What should I do?

I've read instructions on this subject, which I found here at FAQ My Site Was Hacked and some of the linked posts. I've changed the password both on iPage and on WordPress, as well as the secret key. Now I'm not sure what to do. I know that I should update my version of WordPress, but beyond that I'm not sure.
I do not have any pre-hack files of my SQL databases. iPage's "Backups and Restore" tool explicitly says "You will not be able to use this tool to automatically restore SQL databases." I have a few other questions:
1. Would it be too complicated just to copy the html code of my posts, delete everything, and then start building over again by pasting the posts to their respective days?
2. Are the hackers' codes usually hidden in the posts themselves or in the themes?
3. Just how useful is the "Backups and Restore" tool anyway?

I've been working away on hosting a small company blog at WordPress.com and purchases the Custom CSS Upgrade to integrate some of our design elements.

Unfortunately, it seems as if the Stylesheet Editor modifies the inserted CSS quite heavily -- at least more than what it is supposed to do. Specifically, as I have no access to seperate stylesheets for IE, I have to resort to using inline hacks (think star (*) and underscore hack (_)). However, both characters seem to be removed on submitting the revised stylesheet resulting in the property being parsed by all browsers -- not what I was looking for.

On top of that the editor also seems to make too much sense of things it doesn't yet know about. For example, using cross-browser CSS3 gradients results (see code example below) in just a messy and invalid 'background-image' property.

background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #ffe9ad, #fabb52);
background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#ffe9ad), to(#fabb52));

Now, I can live without the fancy gradients, but when (sometimes) necessary IE hacks are removed I don't really have a lot of use for using WordPress.com's services. It looks like I'll need to install WordPress on our own web server, which is a shame as that would leave us without some of the prime advantages (I'd say: managed/secure, speed and uptime not dependant on our own services) of using a hosted solution.

But before I do that I thought I'd come here and ask around. I fear there's no solution to the problem right now, but hopefully there will be at some time in the future?

Note: the blog I am working on is not linked to this account and currently in private mode. I can provide more code examples if required (though shouldn't need to).

Undoubtedly, but you won't find it here. If your original work has been stolen try contacting the ISP hosting the site which did the stealing. WordPress.COM (where you are now) has nothing to do with your site, or the one stealing your work. WordPress.ORG only supplies themes for blogs / websites, they don't control or monitor content.

I believe the host you want to contact is BlueHost.Com, and if this person is stealing your work they're probably breaking the TOS contract they agreed to when they signed up.

Good luck.

I'm new to WordPress.com

Now that I'm starting to get into it a bit, I'm discovering some of the limitations and issues that we WordPress.COM users have to live with or workaround in some way.

I'm guessing that some of you have already found some websites and blogs or other places where WordPress.com users can find good (and hopefully organized) WordPress.COM tips, tricks, how-to's, tutorials, videos, detailed discussions on issues, etc.

Thanks in advance for sharing links to other places to find good WordPress.com information.
