Whenever I try to change anything the page kind of glitches out and a message tells me that I need admin status to make the changes.

Well, I'm and admin and the only user on my site. It seems there was a similar post back in May that remains unresolved: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-changes-denied-it-says-only-the-admin-can-make-changes-but-i-am-the-adm?replies=26#post-896346

I have tried the suggestions in that post, but to no avail. Any thoughts?

Hemingway is a staggered-column theme with excerpts from two posts only on the front page. To access the other posts use a Recent Posts widget, an Archives widget, and a Categories widget. To access static pages use a Pages widget.

When I put a link on facebook to a blog posting...it gives me one option for a "thumbnail" and it's the wordpress's "W" - is there any way around this....adding an image to the background of my hemingway blog (which is not working well) doesn't seem to do it.

There is no way to change that, and changing dates on posts after they have been published is not a good idea since the date is part of the URL. That means that when you change a post date, any links to that from search engines will be broken and too many broken links on a site causes the search engines to get cranky and at some point they might decide to quit crawling your site entirely. I've seen that happen.

Right now the posts (in dashboard) are all listed in the order they were created....I want to be able to switch them around and put whichever one I want at the top and so on. Any ideas on this? The Hemingway theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar (footer widget area).

I've just played a bit with Hemingway, and things aren't going to work too well since there isn't a parent element that contains all the content stuff. This means that the menu would appear to shift up or down by the width of the top admin bar depending on whether someone was logged in or logged out.

I'd suggest going with your second choice.
