To hide that entire line, you could add CSS like this to your Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel:

.entry-meta {
     display: none;
}

You could also just hide the author name, but it would leave the "Posted by" text at the beginning and I think it looks a bit funny that way.

.author {
     display: none;

BTW, this is the solution I ended up going with. I used...

.single .entry-meta {<br /> display: none;<br /> }

...to hide all the meta data from the single post page. This removes, all the meta data - not just the author. However, the category and tags are still shown on other post pages. Seems like a compromise I can live with.

Some themes break out their metadata so you can hide bits of it, and some don't, like the one you're using. That means it's all or nothing when it comes to hiding things.

But this hides all the meta data (category, tags, and author). I really just want to hide the author.

I would like to remove (i.e. hide) the author link for my posts. Currently the post reads "This entry was posted in tag, tag, tag by Author. Bookmark the permalink."

(I manage this blog on behalf of someone else, and don't really want my name made public).

I realise this can be done with CSS, and that it it theme-specific. I am using the Twenty Twelve theme. I have purchased the custom design upgrade.

Note that you cannot add dynamic content such as a customized author name using CSS only. To change the author name on WordPress.com, each author must log in to their account and update the "Display Name" in their profile. Here is a help page explaining where to find the setting:

Note that each user must update separately, you cannot do it for them. Also, make sure to remove the first two selectors to hide "byline" from the CSS example above if you want to display the author names.

You can combine those into one block, and if you add a selector for "entry-meta .entry-categories" to the list, it will also hide the category list for posts.

Currently building a site using the Chateau theme and do not wish to have author or date posted. Those do not show on the pages but do on the posts.

To add custom CSS to a WordPress.com, you do need to purchase the Custom Design upgrade.

Here is a CSS example to get you started. The first thing it does is hide the date in the Chateau theme. Then, it works to expand the header, content, and footer area for posts so there isn't a big gap on the left where the date used to be. You can try this out by adding it to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS page and clicking preview:

.post-info,
#comments #respond {
	padding-left: 0;
}

#nav-below {
	padding-left: 4%;
}

.post-entry {
	width: 92%;
}

Note that you may need to make some adjustments to the numbers to get the spacing just how you'd like to see it.

I agree with Raincoaster that you may want to add a text widget to your sidebar with contact details, or add a contact page, rather than add it to the footer.

But, to add to your footer, I believe the following will work for you:

You will have to wait until staff reply with the code you require. There is no more volunteer support for CSS. As it's a long weekend, it may take a day or so.

re: footer credits
They cannot be removed:
