Hi justpi,

Thanks for this link. Having checked through these, I went to menu, pages, and view all. "Home:Home" was listed so I ticked to add to the menu, changed the name from "Home" to "The Blog" and saved the menu, but then when I went to view changes, it was still named "home." Were these the right steps and did I miss anything out?

On the right hand side of this menu item it is saying "custom" rather than "page" which sounds right.

Thanks again.

I had fixed this once, but after having reset my cookies and such, I can't find where. The problem is I have two tabs coming up as home. I was able to change the name of one to 'welcome.' No page comes up in my Pages (on left side bar) as being called a 'home.' If I get rid of the one that says 'welcome,' I get 404 on both tabs. If I change the 'welcome' to say 'home' I end up with two tabs both saying 'home.'

Really, I don't care where the information is placed (ie on the home page or the welcome page).

I just want there to be one.

Hi there

Does anyone know how I can rename the home page of this blog to "The Blog".

I have looked at posts posted in forums on this but they tend to be from .org members and so the advice is different (relating to .php, etc).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Also, is it standard practice to have the blogs in the first page or "home" tab rather than a page of explanatory text? It seems to be standard practice. And it seems with blogs people will usually know something about the thing/project being blogged about before they get to the blog as they will arrive there via social media, website etc?

Thanks for your help.

Both juspi and I know we are correct when we provide information and it's my opinion that we provided the superior solution. That's why we did not suggest setting a static front page. However, if you are happy with that all is good.

Maybe you ought to consider the impact of that on your returning vistors and the impact of SEO. Will the visitors wish to click through the same static front paqge every time they come to your blog to read your latest posts? Based on my considerable experience as a blogger, I consider static front pages to be traffic killers and will never set one on my blogs.

Your theme supports footer widgets as well: you can go to Appearance > Widgets and add the Archives widget to a footer widget area.

But if you don't like that and want a dropdown of monthly archives, you don't need to categorize your posts the way yo say: they are already sortable by month. The URL for all posts published January 2012, for example, is this:
http://noelinesmith.wordpress.com/2012/01/
So you can create a custom menu and add those URLs as custom links.

You cannot directly make the blog front display the current month's posts. But you can set the number of posts per page in Settings > Reading.

That's great - thanks (and now I understand how 'categories' should be used!)

I don't want a sidebar so would like to have a top drop down menu for archives ie. Archive - Jan 2012, Feb 2012 etc. I understand now I need to categorise my posts as 'Jan 2012' etc. and how to create the menu with drop downs (I think!).
So, my question is, is it possible to make the front blog page show only the current month? If so, how do I then archive the January front page when we get to February?

Thank you.

Ticking the boxes in Pages > All Pages is only for selecting multiple pages in order to bulk edit them, not for activating the pages. When you publish a static page, you automatically get a tab for it in the header area, except if a custom menu has been activated (you were probably using a different theme and switched to Chateau). Go to Appearance > Menus, select the blank option from the pulldown in the Theme Locations module, save.

I'm using the Chateau theme and apparently can have additional pages. I've created an 'About' page and ticked the box in "all pages" but it doesn't show up on my blog. I'm obviously doing something stupid - but what?! Thanks.

This being said, to answer both questions, here's a question:
Your second "Home" page is empty. Why did you create it in the first place? What are you trying to do?
