Instead of having all my full posts displayed in a row on my homepage, how can I show post excerpts with a "read more" link? I'm not sure where to find this option, or if it's possible.

We can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page. See the guide here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/

Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

Your home page is set to a static page. If you navigate to that page's Edit screen, you can disable comments in the Discussion box.

To split content in your posts so only an excerpt and a read more link appears on the front page of the blog, where all posts are showcased, you insert "the more tag". http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

I'd like to set up my home page so that the main content area shows summaries (ie. roughly: Title and first paragraph or so) of my latest 3 or 4 blog posts, in reverse date order. Is this possible to do in WordPress? I haven't found any options to allow it.

I'm not too hung up on precisely how many posts are displayed or how much text of each one. The point is to let visitors to see a little bit of each of the latest few posts without having to scroll.

To get started, create a new page and assign it the Home template under Page Attributes. Populate it with some content and set a Featured Image to have them appear in the content area, and then set that page to be your Static Front Page.

Started using the responsive theme, problem is when I go to the blog there is no home page. It says nothing found. :(

The correct and problematic urls are http://www.sarahmeholick.com and http://www.sarahmeholick.com/cic, respectively.

I think you're right though - I'm looking at the wrong forum, the WordPress support site is a little confusing. Thanks for the correction!

I may or may not have done something really, really dumb to my website, and if it's not fixed by tomorrow I will probably have severe issues with grades in my final project class. Essentially I was attempting to make my domain url/homepage redirect to a custom page. I must have entered it in the wrong field because it resulted in an internal server error, and now when I try to log back into my site, even typing the url manually, it results in the same 500 internal server error because it automatically redirects to the page I wanted as my homepage instead of taking me into the actual website.

In retrospect, I should have seen that coming. Sadly I didn't and I can't find any way to get back into my website to fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That cannot be done without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and do the required CSS editing to achieve that.

Hi,

Beginner on wordpress, I created a blog with piano black as a theme. I created an image for the header and when I click on it it doesn't bring to the homepage.

So I want to link my home page to my header image, and I can't find a solution to do this.

Any help ?

Hey all! This is probably a total newbie question but I've been trying to track down the answer for about an hour now, so is my last resort. Im creating a blog with the Suburbia theme and I want to add a couple categories on my homepage. When I make the category widget it ends up under my About page. Even when I delete the About widget! So confused, any ideas?

Are you using a Custom Menu? If so, don't.

They do have a couple of test posts so my just make a post is not the answer - but it is the default home page it looks like - so @RC - looks like your idea might be better

Do you have any blog Posts? You can set what page your site opens on under Settings->Reading. If you set the site to open on your blog posts and you only have pages, this is what you see; the solution is to pick another Page or to make some posts.

Just make a new Post of some sort and the message will go away

New Posts are made the same place you deleted the original Hello World Post

I am new at this so forgive the novice question;

I was copying pages to get rid of the comments function and then deleting the old pages. Unfortunately I also deleted whichever page my Home page was tied to and now am getting the "well this is embarrassing" bit. All my other pages are fine.

I think it has something to do with the fact that I chose to tie the home page to static posts but I cant find my way back to that page either...
