Yes (provided you don't insert full-width versions,* of course): you simply set the alignment of the images to left instead of none.

* When you are about to insert an image, you get four size options: full-width, large, medium and thumbnail. Full-width means original size, if the original is narrower than the main column, or downsized to the column width, if the original is wider. The default widths for the other three options should be set by you in Settings > Media. The width of the main column in Twenty Eleven is 585px, so you should set large, medium and thumbnail to around 500, 300 and 150, respectively.

Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It's in the Visual editor Row 2 first position "style". See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

The only way to keep all three photos on one line is to set all the alignments to "left". In which case the code you sent didn't do anything...unless I'm not doing it right, which, at this point, is probable.

This is just a test blog. The one I need help with is actually http://beautibasics.wordpress.com/host-a-spa-party/
The problem is that the text is next to the last photo, and I want it to drop to below the photo. I know that if I change the alignment to "none" it will work, but if I do that, the photos don't stay on the same line. What I want to do is use paragraph tags to make it drop to below the photo. This works perfectly when I edit the html of a POST, but it won't work on a PAGE. HELP! I've been struggling with this for about 4 hours.

Thank-you, I understand the align buttons are for text. I was having trouble getting them to actually do what they are supposed to!
I am more concerned with the fact that the images from my media library show up so small in my post. I know they should appear larger. In the 'edit image' I can play around with the height / width measurements however it doesn't automatically ratio them evenly, so the image is skewed. If I do simple math to increase both axis, the image appears blurry ( and they are high quality images).

What am I missing?

I am having issues when I create pages, especially with images. If I insert images and set the layout, the images will sometimes jump when I hit UPDATE or when I go to preview the page. For example, I am trying to create a publications page with images of the various books that my work is in. I want each of these images to link to sites where the work can be published. I inserted all of the various images in a line down the page. When I hit update, all of the image move up and are crunched together, next to each other (left to right no the screen rather than top to bottom).

How can I avoid/ fix this problem?

Thank you so much for your help!

That's because you don't know how to properly align images and use text wrapping.

Hi there,
The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignment They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that's centered without text on either side of it. If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.

Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).
To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the HTML editor after each image/text pair:

<p style="clear:both;">TEXT HERE</p>

Thanks so much, justpi. It's probably going to take a while to get my head around all this, but I did want to respond to some of your concerns:

4) I can live with a little misalignment at the bottom of "fortunyturban" and "arabwtapestry."

5) I plan to address the opening image and caption, but as long as they're staying put, I'm okay with it for the time being.

6) I rather like having the occasional group of images with no space in between, but I can live with a small amount of space.

Again, thanks, and thanks, too, to thistimethisspace.
