Hi, essentially, my goal is to let viewers see an overall map, clicking on each location will introduce to them more details regarding that location. Much like how people have embedded photos on google maps, but preferably not using google map itself. Is this possible? All thoughts welcome!

Hey
Basically i have image mapped a photograph so different sections have llinks to different urls, i want to upload it into a post but upload media does not support files with the .html after them. is there any way of getting round this or turning a html file into something i can upload?

That's called "image mapping." There are some free services to make it work:

I want to create an interactive image in wordpress.com - basically I want to have several links from a single image that i've uploaded. is this possible?

a) Yes, this is what I'm talking about.
b) I asked about the upgrade because this would affect what technique and what themes can be used. Without the upgrade you can only use a workaround that works in relatively few themes.
So start with the first two groups of themes I'm listing here:

See if you like any of them (some will be excluded right away, as they don't support a header image). If you find one you like, create the composite image in the exact pixel dimensions specified in Appearance > Header and then I'll work out the code you'd need. If you don't find one you like, I'll see if some of the newer themes I haven't tested would do, and I'll let you know.

Id you want to go the CSS route, know that justpi can supply the CSS code to you, however, the custom design upgrade is not a one time purchase. It's an annually renewable upgrade.

I believe I am able to do "a)". I created a mock image and have uploaded it to my site to show if this is what your talking about.

I hadn't initially planned on buying the Custom Design b/c I'm still in the very infancy of the website & YT channel production. Plus, I'm not proficient in the least with web coding.

The phrase "level of customization beyond what can be done on a WordPress.com blog" is taken from a stock staff reply. I have repeatedly pointed out (and demonstrated) that this reply is wrong.

But links on specific areas of an image need to be defined via specific points relative to the image or the whole theme, so first of all you need a fixed-width theme.
Then:
a) It's possible to insert the logos elsewhere then reposition them so that they show up in front of the header image. But the page will load faster if you use an image editing application to create a composite header image that will incorporate the logos. Can you do that?
b) Do you have or are you planning to buy the Custom Design upgrade?

Hey, I want to know if I'm able to clickable images in my header image? On the site, I have a black bar there temporarily while I'm working on designs. Below that, I have my "Follow me" links. If you click them, it'll take you to the respective pages. What I want to know is, is there a way to get that "Follow me" section into the black header .png image?

I know the header image goes back to my home page but I'll like to have the FB, Twitter, and YT links inside that and clickable just as they are on my page.

I wouldn't ever suggest a solution that wouldn't allow you to "keep things in your media library"! Image mapping means you define areas of an image and make them function as independent links. The page I linked to simply helps you produce the required code if you aren't an experienced coder; but the image will be uploaded to your blog. Example here:

Oh I see, you mean the opposite of my second suggestion: a group of images that create a larger picture when joined. That's also a possibility: easy in Ambiru because there are no default margins around images, but more complicated than my first suggestion.

mmm... no, my cheat, is actually an even number of image links that look like buttons and would be part of the whole but split into separate images and aligned using the image alignment 'none'. I'd put them directly on the page via an series of images via the media library. Each button would just be a part of each image. Difficult to explain what I mean as I'm much more visual then verbal, sorry! But anyway, I'll try the various options and see which works best for me. :)

Thanks Panos. I'll try both, though I think I may have thought of a 'cheat' using a whole image split into sections with the buttons as part of the image. I'll try them all and see how I do. :)

I didn't need the URL of the blog, I only wanted to know the theme (but what you're now describing isn't even theme dependent, as you don't want a bg image to the whole area of the blog, you want it in the content of the page).

One way to do it: Upload and insert the "background" image the normal way; then upload and insert the "button" images and change this:
to this:


222 and 111 are arbitrary examples: change them to adjust the positioning.
Another way to do it: create a composite image in Photoshop then use image mapping to link to the "button" areas. You can do that here:

Note: the image has to be in the right dimensions for Ambiru (460px wide).

I don't have the actual image yet, Panos, sorry! It's just an idea I'm toying with for a new blog. I'd like to have a background image to a page (will have to be a narrow page as I'm using Ambiru which doesn't have any full width templates) - just to a single static page, not the whole blog - and put clickable image buttons on it afterwards, if possible. I can do the buttons okay, but am not sure about how to do a background image beneath it. 
I'd rather not give the blog's URL at the moment as I'm doing a lot of work on it and want to 'launch' it as a surprise when it's ready.

Possibly, but I need more specifics: on a single static page? bg to the text or to the whole area of the blog? for the blog linked to your username or a different one? Also, it would be helpful if I could see the image, so better upload it and give me its URL.
