When trying to import the export file from Squarespace as Moveable Type, I get the email saying the import was successful but no posts are imported. Is there something I'm missing?

You need to use the Help link on the top right hand corner of your Admin page to report this to Staff and get their help with it.

I have tried, twice, to upload my old WP site into my new one. I get the email saying it's imported, but when I look, nothing is there.

With respect to enabling WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically all new members ought to be doing this. I do not recommend that you edit all of your posts. Sometimes doing what I said above works right away. In your case it did not. Please leave that setting enbaled.

With respect to copying and pasting, unless you use the process I pointed to one day you will wish you had. there have been cases of members not following those instructions for a long time and then suddenly when the theme or the WordPress.com version is updated they have problems.

With respect to the import issue we Volunteers cannot help you. You must file a support ticket and get Staff assistance. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

Ok, before I do this a couple quick questions - first, do I need to follow the above advice for all posts? Because if that is the case then I am going to have to rethink the whole thing (there are 846 posts alone). second, will this help with the issue for comments too, and third, why did this all of a sudden start happening about 2 weeks ago - before that everything imported over with no problem.

And, as far as the copy and paste issue - I took a very brief (like first line) look at the page and it said "you may discover it doesn't appear exactly as you would expect" but mine that have been copied and pasted have been fine every time, so I am not sure if that is something I would apply for me or not. Can you explain a bit more please - it doesn't make sense to me.

Please go here and enable this so you do not have ongoing trouble in the future as Blogger runs on deprecated code.

Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal. If it doesn't you will need Staff help.
P.S. All wordpress.com bloggers ought to enable this setting.

Another tip:
Never copy and paste into a WordPress.com blog without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor, please see here so you know how to do this correctly http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

I have been trying to import my blog from blogger to wordpress and for some reason it is not fully importing. The titles on posts and comments are coming in, but not the actual content - the only option I have so far is to copy and paste the html code from the blogger post/comment into the one in wordpress that is blank. I tried exporting and then importing but the file is too big, and so I exported it and tried to import into a different blogger blog I have set up and it worked fine (thought maybe it was an export issue too). Not sure what gives because it seemed to work fine before. Any help would be appreciated.

The import failed. Others have had failed imports as well as auxclass stated above. That's why I recommend going directly to Staff, providing all your details, and requesting that they help you.

when you say "go directly to Staff", that means nothing. go directly to Staff and do what? repeat my original question? all I want is a clear, concise answer on how to get over 400 posts and over 2000 comments imported to WP!

We Volunteers do the best we can to help our fellow bloggers. If you believe that Staff have not provided sufficient detail in the import entry support documentation http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ then please share that with them when you file your support ticket. http://en.support.wordpress.com

I can clarify something for you as I have more than one domain being domain mapped and free hosted here. The fact the import is not working for you is not as far as I can tell in any way associated with the fact that you purchased a domain name and domain mapping. But if you think it is associated then by all means include mention of it in your support ticket.

This is WordPress.com where there are free blogs being free hosted by WordPress.com. We do not pay for imports of any kind here. Please post an active link for the blog in question if it is a free blog being free hosted by WordPress.COM that you are referring to.

I just imported my blog from Blogger..or tried to. Only the post tiles transferred, NOT THE POSTS!!! what the hell?!? None of the comments transferred either...the NAMES are there, but not the comments!

I was just reading the bulk editing of posts section and I don't see how you can use it for this. It can be removed by editing the posts one at a time but ...

Yes I read the diff b/w .org and .com - very confusing naming convention if you ask me.

Here at wordpress.com we cannot advertise on our blogs. Did you perchance run advertising on your Blogger blog? I'm thinking that the > could be a leftover from our software stripping out some kind of code.

When I imported my posts from blogger a greater than sign > was appended to the title and first line. How can I remove this from all the imported posts?
