Hey, all. I'm using the import function to bring over the content from my LJ, only to have it successfully bring over 100 posts and then get shut down from LJ's side for making too many server requests of LJ too quickly. It's said to try again in ~30 minutes. I've even gone four hours, and get the same thing, and only the initial 100 posts have been imported all day. Also, I've got about 4500 posts to bring over - 12 days to get that done is... unreasonable.

Is there a solution? I have an .xml file of my LJ but can't find an appropriate page to use to upload it.

Many thanks

You can delete the blog and if you don't either make it private or delete it popup will be creating duplicate content which is not a good thing. You may want t to place only one post on the front page of the old site directing to your new blog's URL.

It can take weeks for search engines to index your blog. It's publishing posts, not pages that attracts search engine attention.

The process we use for verifying free hosted WordPress.com blogs with search engines is found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don't feel panicky about this please.

WordPress.com provides the search engines with site maps. We bloggers do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/

Correct. I jumped onto this thread because I have the same problem.

From what I've read the core wordpress system has the same problem of a mish mash of rules - however they can be customised in a proper wordpress installation by editing a file. On wordpress.com we have no such luxury, so I think some variation from the core is necessary to implement this.

Hi,

On this page:
http://acrosstheandesbyblog.com/test-page/

You will see an image that has been uploaded to the page, and inserted as a gallery and as a regular image.

Whatever EXIF/IPTC tag I put the "caption" in, it always goes into the "description" and not the "caption" when uploaded to wordpress (I have tried description, headline and others).

I like to use the caption instead, as it displays in the gallery when you mouse over the image.

Currently I have to edit all images after upload and cut/paste the description to the caption.

So my question is : Which tag should I put my caption in so that WordPress will accept it and store in it's own caption field on upload.

Thanks

I too am interested to know what is happening here, further clarification would be appreciated.

For me I just want a consistent way to get text into the wordpress CAPTION and TITLE.

I don't understand why you would create exceptions for different lengths etc ... why not just a simple 1:1 mapping? Because we use hosted wordpress we cannot use plugins or modify code files, so we have to make these changes in the exif tags if the files before we update. Surely it's better to let us make the decision there (or at least make this an option)
