For now, the "exclude" acts as a delete from the existing Gallery without actually deleting the image entirely and losing with it all the captions/titles, etc. which you mentioned above.

If you Delete, it's gone permanently.

ok, one more follow-up question -- why can't I just delete the photo from the original gallery rather than "exclude"? If it is in the media library, shouldn't I be able to include it in the new gallery and delete from another? Thanks!

It is more laborious to create a Gallery this way, but if you are adding a few images at a time, hopefully it won't overwhelm you.

Regardless, if you want to remove the photo of the item sold from the gallery where it originally appeared, you'll have to "exclude" it from that gallery, otherwise it will continue to appear there.

Study the gallery shortcode given in the example posts and it should be clear.

Thanks Jennifer -- Can I use "includes" to make a brand new gallery? So for example...

I have a gallery on each of my jewelry pages: Earrings, Bracelets, Necklaces. As I sell items, I would like to move them to a different page/gallery called "Sold" without having to delete and upload them again -- losing all the captions and titles I entered.

But the "Sold" page/gallery would consist entirely of "includes." Is that possible?

Or do I need to start a gallery first with a new uploaded photo, so I have the existing gallery code, and then add my sold items with "includes," after which I can delete the newly uploaded photo (the one I used just to create a new gallery)?

When you upload photos to a Gallery, they become attached to it. Currently, the only ways to remove and/or display them elsewhere is by either deleting them from the existing Gallery and uploading them again to a different Gallery or by modifying the gallery shortcode in the Post or Page Text Editor with "includes" and "excludes" and the image ID#.

Is there a way to move photos from one gallery into another gallery? I would like to set up a new page called "Sold" and move all my pieces that sold into that gallery and out of the original "earrings" "bracelets" "necklaces" gallery. Thanks!

Just a heads up folks the gallery tag when adding in the include property ignores the first value in the comma delimited list. I worked around this by simply adding in a 0, as the first value but just something to be aware of.

There is no way to add images straight from a gallery. We will consider it, but for now you'll need to upload them directly in the desired page.

The error you're seeing is really just a misguided alert. You can check for more details and see the reasoning.

Basically, we use secure certificates to keep your data safe when working in the Dashboard, but secure certificates have to be signed to a specific domain. Since we can't provide secure certificates for every mapped domain, our certificates are signed to WordPress.com. So, your browser is seeing you access jdnphotos.com with a certificate signed for wordpress.com and warning you that WordPress.com my be intercepting your connection, which of course is perfectly fine in this case.

Only users with access to the Dashboard will see the alert.

As for the preview error, please make sure that you have both first and third-party cookies enabled. This is a bug in Firefox that we have no control over.

Let me try this again, as I ALSO cant preview drafts in this theme. It gives me a 404 error. I can preview photos in my previous theme.

To review I would appreciate a video or something on how to create galleries using photos in a MEDIA library (already uploaded). Is there a way to select all using the media database. If not, I am requesting that WP consider adding this feature so that photos dont have to be duplicated in mass. When I try to do this, I dont get the create a gallery option. Even if I add them one-by-one, I dont have the gallery option. I found the existing training page but it doesnt talk to this so I think it is missing this feature.

I would like to request a way to status recent pages for those who create blogs with pages. I like the drop down menus in the new theme and that is the only way I can get these to work.

Most importantly, since I paid for the upgrade to convert from a jdnphotos.wordpress.com site to jdnphotos.com which does not work properly - you get a certificate error on sign out that tells people they have visited a bad page - I would like this error fixed. So either I forgot to do something to fix this, or WP needs to do something to fix this for visitors to my site. Or are you saying of the millions who convert, they all get this pop up message saying they've visited a bad site at signoff when editing their newly converted web site? Then you should warn your users before they pay to convert that they will from that point on get pop up error messages that their sites are now not certified.

A gallery on a particular post or page draws images from the images that have been attached to that post or page. The only way to attach images to a post or page is to upload them via that page. There is no way to construct a gallery from the media library. They will need to be re-uploaded through the new page.

Yes, the Recent Posts widget only shows recent posts. There's no such widget for pages since they don't carry active publish dates, so there's no way to tell what is "recent."

Hi Macmanx. I know galleries come from photos added to a page. I built one that became outdated. I had to build a brand new website to create the gallery, too. That seems like it cant be correct - thus my email to you.

I want to know how to create a gallery using photos in the media library. I do not get the gallery options unless I upload them all again. It wont let me grab all the photos at once (to then generate the gallery option). I know where the add button is, but I seem to be required to create a gallery from OFFLINE files, not photos in my media library - resulting in many duplicate photos and wasted space.

As for the widget, I guess you are saying recent PAGES dont count? Only POSTS, correct? Is there any way to show recent pages?

Galleries are built ouf of the images attached to a page, and images are only attached when they're uploaded through the page in question.

If you delete the gallery page, you'll need to re-upload the image through the new gallery page.

As for the widget, it has been added correctly, but you don't have any published Posts, so nothing will appear there.

I am unable to add a new photo to my gallery page using the new theme. I did have a gallery page that soon became outdated, so I had to delete it. This means, if I understand the process correctly, I need to REUPLOAD ALL MY PHOTOS (already in my media library) to create another gallery page. (This can't be correct.) If you can tell me how to create a gallery page using this new theme and the photos in my media library, I'd appreciate it.

I'd also like to know how to add photos to an existing gallery page (future reference). The instructions currently posted don't work for me with this theme. Options simply don't appear. I don't know if this is a theme defect or what.

Also, when I place the widget "recent posts" in my sidebar with this new theme. they don't appear in my main page. This is also an issue.

It can be done, but you'll have to modify the gallery shortcode to use "Includes".

I would like to be able to put one image into multiple galleries (I would like a gallery where people can see ALL of my artwork in one place, but I would also like to be able to separate by type - so, e.g., one image would be in both the "All Artwork" gallery and the "Tattoos" or "Portraits" gallery), but, I can't seem to find a way to do this without uploading the image to the site multiple times, as once I put an image into a gallery, it seems to be unavailable for any new galleries I make.

Is there some way I can put one image into multiple galleries without storing multiple copies of that image on my account?

Someday, we can hope it will be easier, but until then, you don't have to reupload them. Just use "include" and the image ID number in the Gallery shortcode. This has to be written in the HTML editor

Your code would look something like [ gallery include="153,249,451,455,749" ] (without spaces after and before the brackets)

If you want to display an entire Gallery from another Post/Page, use the Post ID number instead: [ gallery id="253" ]

I know this has been discussed briefly in the support forums in the past ( http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/gallery-from-media-library?replies=6 ) but I just wanted to echo that WordPress may want to look into creating a solution to this problem. As I understand it, as of now there is no way to create a gallery in a new page containing images from your media library that are uploaded/attached to existing posts. Instead, you have to re-upload, or manually put them in the HTML tab--but if you do that, it still does not show up as a "gallery" in the editor for that page, thus without the gallery options.

There must be some way to start a new page and have the option to create a galley and then just go through and flag the existing pictures in your media library that you want to include. It seems silly to have to re-upload images twice to make a new gallery of them.
