Thanks for your reply. Yes. I did try those things. It just seems odd to me that the application is so reliant on me doing a bunch of stuff rather than just allowing me to issue one instruction by a button. I gave up trying to indent lines. As I read your explanation of indenting all I can say is 'not in this lifetime!) Maybe another application will be developed to make blog publishing easier for post-luddites such as I. Thanks

Microsoft WORD is not now nor has it ever been web compliant. It's filled with junk code for formatting.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/#using-word-cleanly

Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It's in the Visual editor Row 2 first position "style". See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

Why isn't the program made compatible with my computer's word program -- I mean the program that I do my writing in, where I can easily indent paragraphs, change font sizes for footnotes, drag and drop, etc? I have to tell you I don't find wordpress easy to use from that angle. I don't find it intuitive. I especially don't like that I can't indent the first line of paragraphs. As far as I can make out the only way I can indicate the beginning of a new paragraph is by double line spacing between paragraphs. I found some instructions for varying spacing but the instructions were in computerspeak. It appeared to me that variations from the default program involved performing a series of functions that, to be honest, I don't want to have to learn. I just want to write as I do with my microsoft program or some of the free downloadable programs that I have used. I'd appreciate feedback on this.

I read the first two. I am using Windows Live Writer. I thought this was to enable me to make a larger font. It somehow did for this post, but I can't replicate.

Just to focus on font size, what am I doing wrong or right in WLW--to make the font larger?
By the way I don't mind purchasing some kind of upgrade, but that is more for colors.
Right now, I'm just trying to have increased font size. ..

I'll look at the HtML reference right now, but I'm sure I already have and it' s probably too hard.
If I purchase the upgrade will this make the font consistently larger and give me control of this part so I can repeat it?
Thank you.

If you are expecting to be able to click a button and change fonts throughout your blog then it’s not that easily done.

These are 3 ways to change fonts on wordpress.com blogs.

(1) Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the HTML editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

(2) Changing font colors in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2

(3) Changing all font families, colors and sizes throughout the whole blog by purchasing an annually renewable Custom Design upgrade and using Typekit Fonts with Staff support. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

Note: Any font changes to font families, colors and size in the blog title, tagline, post titles, page titles, widget headings, categories and tags cannot be done without CSS editing.

Hi,
I'm still trying to get control over font indent paragraph word processing issues for my blog StopSmartMetersIrvine.com

This morning (see the blog) I was able by some kind of miracle which I am unable to repeat to get a larger font. I worked from windows Live writer and the font on the draft said Georgia 16. However, when I try to recreate this WLW doesn't even allow me to insert 16 (it switches back to 14) for the font size.

2nd issue. I really like to indent paragraph and I am unable to do that. When I try --either in Word Press or WLW--it moves the entire paragraph in. I have tried various things such as returning then shift return.

Thank you.

Bless you SacredPath! That was *exactly* what I was looking for! It worked beautifully on my post, and I can't wait to apply it to my pages. And it had no impact on the picture that was in the post. This is a code that I am writing down, as I will be using it A LOT!!

To further my education, I have 2 questions: What please does the "20px" value refer to? Is that the effect of how far in the line is indented? And secondly is there a tutorial somewhere for newbies like me to get started learning this HTML code stuff? I don't need the hard core programming knowledge, but could use basics like formatting so I don't have to be a bother to peeps like you.

Thank you again for helping me - now I will try to figure out how to mark this as "Resolved".

First off, go to settings > writing and select to have wordpress automatically correct invalid nested XHTML and click save.

Without the CSS upgrade, you will have to do it by adding some inline CSS to each post. Write your entire article and when it is the way you want it and you are about to publish, switch to the HTML tab in the editor and create a blank line at the top and put this in it.

<div style="text-indent: 20px;">

Then scroll down to the very bottom of your article and make a new line below everything and put the ending div tag.

I am quite new to blogging. I promise I have spent the past 4 days going thru the WordPress tutorials and Help files first. Then I searched the 24/7 Support. Then I searched this Forum site. I used every form of "inserting a tab to a paragraph" as I could think of to search on. My theme is Ocean Mist if that makes a difference.

Is it not feasible to indent the first line of a paragraph in a WordPress post or page? I've also tried cut/paste, import from MS Word, and import from Google Blogger, but the tabs are always stripped out by WordPress. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance, Deb & Dakota
