Yes, but s/he has done this before. There's no difficulty about making the links in the visual editor usually.

I expect it's some incompatibility between your browser and WP.com at the moment. What browser and version are you using?

when I click on the button nothing happen

Nothing will happen if that's your first move in the Visual editor: first you type the text that should work as a link, then you highlight it, then you click the link button to add the URL.

The text editor is the HTML or code editor. When you're on the write post page, there's a tab on the content box that says Text. Try it and see if that works.

Yes. But since yesterday it doesn"t work. I can't even put them in : when I click on the button nothing happen ! What is the text editor ?

You folks are ALL geniuses.

My problem appears to be solved.

It may have been the Flash update; or, it may have been as simple as me being an idiot and not reading/employing the WP instructions correctly. (Notice I tried the Flash fix BEFORE I tried rereading the instructions; anything to avoid having to learn something.)

I followed the WP instructions carefully and the link gizmo now works like a charm.

THANK YOU so very much - ALL of YOU - for helping me.

What a kind and helpful gang you are!

I am working on ALL of the very kind suggestions above.

(Previously tried 3 different browsers; no change.)

I am on DSL.

Links post fine everywhere except on the subject blog.

I will report back as soon as I digest - and try to implement - the suggestions.

Are you using the Visual editor? Or are you using the HTML editor?

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies?

How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

Doh. That didn't display the code like I wanted. Take a look at http://www.w3schools.com/HTML/html_links.asp

It gives examples there on what the HTML code should look like in your posts for links.

That's odd. What is the code you're using for your links when using the HTML editor and not the Visual one? Links should look like:

Cannot Insert Live Links In Posts

I have read the past posts on this issue, read the WP tutorials, searched google, used the link tool, tried manually typing the link, and all I get is a text version of the desired link in the post. I have tried the HTML window and the Visual window. I have cleared my cache repeatedly. I have used three different computers. Always the same result.

What am I doing wrong?

If anybody can help me figure this out, I would be grateful.

Here’s the link to create a support ticket for Staff http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

If you cannot use that link then email support@wordpress.com and provide all your details.

Same here... I have two links to post in my blog today - It just takes me back to the ALL POSTS page - be careful if you haven't saved your post - it will navigate away from the page and you'll lose what was written.

I am unable to add a link to existing content to any new post. I have tried pasting in the URL and I have tried linking to existing content. Either way, when I click submit the page simply reverts to the original Posts page.

Additionally, when I try to contact support, the first page I receive is a search function which I try. The search button in the center of the page does not do anything.

Can anyone help with either of these?

I am clicking insert(it doesn't say update for me). I am not sure what else to do. I thought it might be a bug but it is still doing it. Is there some type of update I need to do to get rid of this problem?

I know it sounds like a Well DUH but make sure you're clicking the UPDATE button and not the Cancel button. Drupal and a few other platforms have it on the opposite side to WordPress.

I am having the same problem. I have added my blog url to my list of banner blocked sites. I try to use visual editor but it erases the link info when I first try to enter a link. Then when entered a second time, it freezes up and doesn't do anything.

When I use HTML it lists the link, but the 404 message shows up when I go to click on it and the link does not show up. I'm new to WordPress(set up my blog this week) and this is so frustrating. Can anyone help?

I had exactly the same frustrating problem of seeing only blank pop up window when pressing on insert/edit link button in visual mode. Finally I found the reason and solved it !

The problem is your firewall or antivirus program that is blocking banners/ads.

You need to add your blogs url in the "white list" of websites that are allowed to display banners/ads.

I use Kaspersky and adding *myblogaddress.com* to "Banner Ad Blocker" white list solved the problem.

Now, I can use visual link pop up.
I hope this helps you to solve it too : )

That's no reason for preferring the visual mode; the html for a link that opens in a new window or tab is this:

Thanks Panos. In all these years I have never noticed that the link was grayed out in visual mode.
