In reference to Blogger the issue is on the other end. Blogspot software assumes we all have a single username here at wordpress.com and only a single blog by the exact same matching name. It will not accept any other URL.

So if we have a domain or more than one blog registered under the same WordPress.com username trying to comment on blogspot.com blogs becomes impossible, unless the blogger chooses to enable commenters to post with a username and URL on their Blogger blog.

The only workaround is to register a Blogger blog which will allow you to comment but your username will not be linked to your WordPress.com blog when you do. Then you are labeled as a 'no reply blogger'. It's crazy-making!

Also note the openID fails more often than it succeeds.

I keep on being told that my user name is invalid. I have not changed it. i have reset my password there times-to the same new one. Help!

Open ID has always failed more often than it has worked.

Bottom line: This is a well known issue. If you simply use the Name/URL option when it's provided then your blog will be linked to your username on the comments you leave on blogspot blogs.

I am wanting to know how to comment on a blogger blog, using the wordpress or openid option, I know this has come up before, but it is troubling me that there seems to be no conclusion to this matter. Why is there a wordpress option if it is not going to work? I keep getting a message telling me I do not own the id, which is strange. I have tried typing in my user name as well as the sites name but still nothing.. Please can someone help me. Am I doing it wrong or it this just never going to work.. how sad:(

Hi again,
This is a well known issue. If you simply use the Name/URL option then your blog will be linked to your username on the comments you leave on blogspot blogs.

Do note that as you blog is a WordPress.org install when you need support for it in the future you have to post to http://wordpress.org/support/ If you have not registered a username account there yet you can do so on the top right hand corner of the page I just linked to so you will be able to post to those forums.

Hi there,

Our hands really are tied on this; the way the OpenID feature works is the way that Blogger is implementing it. If you had smalltowncookie.wordpress.com as your primary URL, then you could log in using your WP ID, but since your primary domain is smalltowncookie.com, it can't make that sync. It's unfortunate, but there's nothing much we can do on our end, I'm afraid. I wouldn't recommend changing your domain! :)

So I suppose you can do as TT suggests and just select name/URL instead of logging in specifically as a WordPress user, if that works for you.

I know it's a bit frustrating, and I do apologize.

So I notice that smalltowncookie only has one blog associated with her account - it is a .org account, but nonetheless, and matches her username. I'm going to talk to the internal team and see if anything else is in play here.

P.S. In the Comment as: Slect Profile dropdown
Stop selecting "WordPress" and select Name/URL in order to comment on the blog you posted the link to above.

I explained why that is above. Unless the blogspot blog is set up to accept username and URL only you will continue to experience this Blogger issue.

So I seem to be able to sign in and comment with wordpress blogs, but not blogspot blogs. For example it works for this blog: http://katiekelly.me/2012/09/08/twenty-four-hours-ago/
but it would not work when I tried to comment on this blog: http://thespicybee.blogspot.com/2012/12/A-Very-Foodie-Christmas.html

You just tailgated into this thread so if you have an "invalid username"
issue that does NOT pertain to leaving comments on Blogger blogs then that another and different issue. If that is the case and you do have an invalid username issue that pertains to WordPress.com blogs then start your own thread http://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

Example:
My username is timethief and I deleted http://timethief.wordpress.com blog years ago. My domain URL is http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com and when I try to comment on blogspot blogs that are not set up to accept username and URL only, what happens is "invalid username". That's because the blogspot software will only accept the URL of the blog I deleted unless the blogger changes their comment settings.

When I try to comment on a blog with my wordpress.com identity, I get a message telling me to first login to wordpress.com. I visit wordpress.com and log in with my username and password. Then when I go back to the blog page to leave my comment, when I try to submit the comment I get an error page from wordpress.com that says "you don't own that identity" (even though I just logged in with it).

There is no blog linked to your username. Here's how to link your primary blog to your username. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

I am trying to post on other blogs. For instance I am in a Bible Study where ladies are posting their blogs and I want to comment. I am in one now that was blogged in blogspot. I comment. I add my wordpress identity and it says "You do not own that identity." How can I fix this situation?

Yep, this is the classic Fail. Generally speaking, I avoid using OpenID and the Wp.com ID, and instead choose Name/URL option.

When I try to do this using our my id it doesn't allow it and comes back with a message saying that

WordPress.com

You do not own that identity.

Any ideas
