She can choose to accept the invitation and then only register a username account.

She will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If she does not have a username account she will be taken to the log-in screen, where she can either create a new user account.

Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.

I've been invited to contribute to a blog before and there was already an account set up for me with a username and password.... does anyone know how she can join my blog without having to make her own?

I'm a teacher and I've been asked to remove my class blog from public access, but still need it for my class to access during lessons/at home.
I invited them using the Invitation page, selected viewer, they clicked accept, but we have some confusion how they login.
Ideally, I would prefer them to have a login/password (the same for all) that would allow them all to be logged in at the same time.
Please, if your time permits, advise.

I set up a secondary account to be able to invite myself and check out all the steps:
1) log in to your wordpress account. (The page will probably look a little empty, as if something is missing)
2) check out your invitation mail and copy the link from the bottom of the mail
3) return to the browser window where you logged in to wordpress
4) paste the link into the browser window.

You will receive the notification that you were added to the blog, and the page will look like a "real" dashboard.
