WordPress and its ipad app

These comments must be taken in the context on a new user of both the ipad and WordPress so my gripes might have simple solutions hence this post.

Regrettably I think an ipad is not the appropriate tool to be using to post wordpress blogs (or to use whilst travelling and taking pictures)

The WordPress app does not have the functionality of the real version. It is an incomplete attempt to adapt to ipad. I am really disappointed because I really like wordpress and was looking forward to putting it through its paces.

The 'wusiwug' feature does not exist, nor do most other features. You have to enter text in as HTML. SO YOU MUST HAVE SOME UNDERSTANDING OF HTML.

It is virtually impossible to reference the picture you might be talking about. (constant return to iphoto is required)
It is impossible to order your pictures once loaded.
Pictures are very difficult to select as the thumbs presented are so small that detail is not visible and it is easy to select the wrong picture. The name/number of the jpg is changed when loading, adding to the difficulty.
Inserting photos is laborious and time consuming because the method is not streamlined, you need to do about half a dozen inputs to load each picture. You need to navigate the whole event, which could be 200-300 picture (if you have had a good snapping day), for each insert.
Picture order will be changed if reloading is required as a result of incomplete loading when selected.
When 'bolding' in a 'page', require to manually add the HTHL tag to both ends of the highlighted text. In a post need to put it inbetween.

I am really not a cross old man, just a bit frustrated.

Hi there all

just wondering if it is me or the app.

When in the reader mode, some of the feeds I like to follow like photography, black and white photography have not have not updated for a long long time now (58 days to be exact). Have I got a setting wrong somewhere or is a problem with the app.

Others like life, blogs I follow and others seem ok.
I did reinstall the appy and it updates for a while then stops.

Any help appreciated

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I've just checked on the meaning of sidebar, and had understood something different.

So there is a sidebar showing on the right-hand side of each page when viewing the blog on a mobile/tablet, but all this is doing is blocking the page content, so the sidebar covers the last two or three words of each line on each page.

How do I get the text to flow around the sidebar? Or remove it? Or even just view the text underneath it?

There are no sidebars, so I can't scroll, and when I touch the screen to move around the page I'm only able to scroll up and down to see more content, not side to side, so the content to the right-hand side of the screen is inaccessible.

As I said above when responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

Thanks for your reply, and sorry to take so long to come back to you.

I've disabled the mobile option in the blog's settings, but am still having a problem viewing the site on my iPad and text to the right-hand side of the screen is still not visible. There are no sidebars, so I can't scroll, and when I touch the screen to move around the page I'm only able to scroll up and down to see more content, not side to side, so the content to the right-hand side of the screen is inaccessible.

I've tried to paste in a screen shot, but can't, so sorry that I can't show you the problem, but any further help would be much appreciated.

Friends are complaining they are unable to see my blog from their IPad and when using Android OS. They say the page scroll function doesnt function. I have no IPad and cant try this. Is this a known problem?

I tried blogging on my iPad for the first time last night. I was glad to see that it was possible, but I think it will slow my blogging down. There's no help for that, though, it's my problem, not wordpress'. Right now, I spend one hour writing my blog and two editing it! LOL.

1) yes, if you load the photos on to your iPad you can upload from there just like any other photo.

2) you can change your text size in your browser settings, and I agree, it is too small.

3) try it out beforehand. These things are always more fiddly than you think.

I am very new to blogging but I'm enjoying the process. I will be traveling out of the country soon and plan to use my iPad to blog. WordPress.com for the iPad is set up slightly different from the "regular" one for my laptop - definitely more compact and layered.
1. Is there a way to get my camera's photos onto my iPad blog (not an iPhone camera, a little point and shoot)
2. Any help for using the tiny WordPress.com display for writing? It's awfully small for my old eyes.
3. Any other advice, hints, tips that I should know about and I'm not asking?? Thanks for any help.

When logged in on the iPad (Safari, iOS 5.1), the main WordPress page (the blue one with the Reader, Stats, and Freshly Pressed) does not work. (The Dashboard works as expected, though)
Safari indicates that the page has completely loaded, but all I see, apart from the top blue header menu, is the loading throbber, regardless of how long I wait.

Hi everyone.

I've recently started a blog (sobn.wordpress.com) and chose the 20-12 theme as it'd accommodate my photo style blog with the wide column.

I've come across an issue I can't quite figure out.

When viewing my blog on a computer (windows and mac) and iPhone, the images as fine. However when viewing on a ipad, the images are stretched vertically. Not quite sure where the issue is. When viewing through different browsers (Safari and Chrome). It's the same result. It also does this when viewing it through the WordPress app for ipad.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Howdy! Just popping in to say I'm also unable to reproduce this issue in Safari on an iPad 1 or iPad Mini.

Are you attempting to view the WordPress.com Reader in Safari on your iPad?

If so, try clearing the browser's cache via Settings -> Safari -> Clear Cookies and Data.

Also, try accessing the Reader with our app instead: http://ios.wordpress.org/

Reader "infinite" scroll stops after 5 posts

Widget images coming out blank and or not saving

I'm on the iPad btw, have not tried the Reader on the regular computer. Tried widget image on home pc about a week ago.

Ideas?

By the way I keep having to search "Wordpress forums" from Google. How do I get to them from the iPad?

Yes, you cannot upload images to WordPress using Safari on an iPad because the iPad doesn't allow it.

However, there is a free WordPress app in the App Store that can connect to your blog and allow you to post, add pictures, etc.

Responsive width means the layout adapts depending on the size of the device being used to view your site. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

If you have enabled the mobile theme here > Appearance > Mobile then disable it.

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help with a problem I'm having with the Sidekick theme.

It's listed as a "responsive" theme and should be designed with mobile devices in mind, but when I view my blog from an iPad the pages don't fit the iPad screen and I'm missing text on the right-hand side of the page. This is the case when I use the iPad in both its portrait and landscape orientations. I'm not able to scroll across the blog page, either, so can't access the text at all. Any ideas how I can change this so the blog views beautifully on an iPad?

The blog in question is nickyellis.org.uk

I am busy improving a blog for somebody else, and she has a drop down menu on her blog; Hot Meals Now
It works fine on our laptops and on my phone (android), but on iPhone 5, using Safari and Chrome, you can't click the drop down menu; nothing happens. Other links and blogs can be opened though. On the iPhone 4 and the iPad, the drop-down menu also doesn't work using safari.
What can I do to make it work without accessing FTP servers (since wordpress.com users don't have access to FTP)

If you require any more information, please ask!

I'm really feeling frustrated using your site. The browser bar keeps moving to insert itself in the middle of the page, usually to block the save button. Today, there seem to be glitches that are preventing downloading of photos, or from even selecting the album to download from, as the menu hides itself just off the top of the screen. I have tried using the WordPress app for Ipad and it doesn't allow me to insert photos where I would like (options only above or below text, I want photos in the middle). There doesn't appear to be any way to insert captions using the app. I am really struggling with this and backlogged on my app, am travelling and am so fed up trying to work through all these kinks. Please fix the glitches and provide some tool bars to insert photos where you want, and with the captions you want.
