I have two questions:
1. I know how to link an image to a PDF, but I would like to create a gallery page of images - with each image linked to a separate PDF. Is this possible? Right now I have several images linked to PDFs, but they are in a vertical row: crookedneedles.net/hats/
2. Is there a simple way to link an image to a PDF? This is how I do it. I upload all the PDFs and all the JPGs - then I go in and individually change the URL of the image to connect to the PDF.
Thank you!

Hello.
So, I've been looking for some kind of page update notification plugin that allows members to see when a page has been updated after they logged in on the website.

I've noticed that Mingle Forum uses a 'new'.gif that shows when there's a reply to a comment in the forum itself.

I'd like to see some kind of .gif next to the name of the page. Similar to what Facebook uses to notify the members. And it truly be amazing if it would show a notification instantly, so members can jump to that page immediately to see what's going on.

Can't find anything about it though.
The notification by email plugin is very annoying, cause I receive about 90 emails a day about new posts, I'd just like to see it on the website itself.

Thanks in advance :)

The new headers I upload only works a couple of times, and then they go blank. Both png and jpegs. The wierd part is that they work the first two minutes, and then they don't, leaving the header with a big blank square appr. 1000x1000 px on the front page.

The old headers I use stay the same and works fine.

@michiecat, thanks for the explanation and I'll look in on the trac ticket. It sounds like I can live with the bulk of this, but would also like to see it not downgrade the quality of a correctly sized JPG. I know that in some cases people don't optimize their header images (they don't know) and they can end up huge and cause slow page loading, but for those of use that do optimize images before uploading to the web, this would also present a problem.

I'll wait and see where it all comes out.

Hmmm, this sounds unfortunate. With graphic type headers, I always save as PNG to preserve crisp lines and text, and if wordpress is going to turn those into low quality JPGs that is going to be unfortunate and unacceptable. This will especially be true with a responsive width theme as you need all the quality and sharpness you can get due to the header resizing that goes on for smaller screens.

What is the intended outcome of the core fix?

Yes, if you are using a theme that supports flexible width or flexible height headers (a new feature in the upcoming WordPress 3.4 which alllows your header width and/or height to be as wide or as tall as you like), you will be prompted to crop the image, no matter the dimensions of the image. Unfortunately the image will be saved as a lower-quality JPG.

This is a bug with WordPress itself, and a core ticket has been filed. I checked on the ticket and developers are aware of the issue.

It turns out that this is a bug with the core WordPress software. I have filed a core ticket. I can't give a timeframe for when it will be fixed since it's a core issue, but core developers are aware of it.

Basically, because of the new flexible-width and flexible-height header feature, you are always prompted to crop, even if your image has the exact suggested dimensions.

I apologize for the inconvenience. In the meantime, if your Custom Header is a transparent PNG, you could try adding it as a background image through CSS if you have the Custom Design upgrade, or you could switch to a different theme that does not use flexible headers. These are the themes that currently support flexible headers.
