Neither the theme demo page, nor the preview gadget-thing shows me what the alternate schemes look like. Via these forums, I found 'dark' here:

That only leaves "red" unaccounted for. Not an easily googleable thing. Does anyone know where I could see Pilcrow "red"?
And, finally, is the color of the sidebar text an independently adjustable item, or is it necessarily bound to whatever scheme is chosen?

We cannot access let alone "edit" the underlying templates for our blog themes at wordpress.com. The CSS upgrade support documentation entries make this clear. CSS editing is recommended only to those who are experienced with it and who are aware that they cannot alter functionality using it. They can only change appearance.

WordPress put those tags in itself. Same thing in my case. I'd say it's a small bug. Evidently we need to be cautious about the position of the insertion point when inserting the More directive. When we inserted it we were within a span of text we had deliberately italicized.
