The WordPress.com like button, like every other in-house use only like button (example: Facebook) can only be used by those who have registered WordPress.com username accounts when they are logged in to WordPress.com. http://en.support.wordpress.com/likes/

Likes are not page views. In fact, likes and shares are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can "like" and "share" your posts in several locations such as the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat. Hi, when you 'share' with FB the window does not open wide enough for the "Like" Button to be obvious, it's way down the right hand corner hidden, I have to open it further, and many might not realise and think it's not there....

Same here. I dunno what they are doing about that problem. They say the are trying to catch spam blogging, but its affecting real blogger, who are not liking 300 posts a minute.

Unfortunately, with the cloud-based infrastructure of WordPress.com, we cannot guarantee that it will always work.

Ouf! OK. So, I have to choose between Like buttons or Google Analytics? Analytics allows me to track against Social Media, tells me cities, and is far more precise as to who I am attracting, how many users versus view and who got there how. I had no trouble until this weekend. Is there nothing that I can do to fix this? Your help has really been appreciated, although I confess to being rather upset about this news -- I learned about Cloudflare from the forums as the only way to rig it.

Hello Macmanx,

Thank you so much for your promptness and specificity. At the time that I started my blog, I was told that there was no way to have Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools with wordpress.com, and since I don't yet have the money to invest in wordpress.org, Cloudflare seemed like a rational sidestep. I use Cloudflare exclusively for the Analytics and Webmaster Tools. If I can use those, I'd be happy to drop Cloudflare, although it has been kind to (and so has wordpress).

It looks like the conflict is CloudFlare. Other things are broken as well on your blog, such as the admin bar up top and Custom Design.

We are unable to support using CloudFlare for your WordPress.com site for several reasons:

1. Their method of pointing your domain to your WordPress.com site requires using an IP address or specific server, which we don't support. Your site does not have a static IP address or specific server. Instead, requests to load your site are shifted between several IP addresses and servers in order to balance the demand on servers. This means that specifying an IP address or server won't work.

2. The features of their cloud-based infrastructure simply duplicate the infrastructure already being provided to you by WordPress.com, such as:

* CDN's (Content Delivery Networks) that deliver your site content from the location closest to your visitor * Caching/optimizing files for faster loading times * Security measures protecting your site from denial of service attacks and other forms of hacking/malware * Site stats, including search engine terms and incoming link referrers, that are easier to read than Google Analytics

You can direct your domain back to your WordPress.com blog by changing your name servers to:

NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If your domain is registered with us, you can change your name servers following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

If there are other features you were interested in using via CloudFlare, besides the ones listed above, can you let me know more about what you're trying to do? I'll be happy to help you learn more about the equivalent feature on WordPress.com.

Oh I'm using mozilla firefox 2.0 at home, the most current version according to that website. But It's also happened on my work computer and they use IE browser.

I'm having the same issue. Liking posts on the blog/reader and some of them are not registering. I've notice this problem for a while and thought WordPress was just updating; but I guess I'm not the only one!

I give up, I think is the way to go, it worked yesterday but not today.
I've done everything you suggested, but my likes still aren't registering on some blogs, on others it does, but most no. I tried slowing it right down, but the same thing keeps happening.

Have you tried with all of your browser extensions disabled?

Also, don't try the Like button in such quick succession or you will be locked out by the rate limiter. Just try it once.

So I did what timethief said, cleared, checked, did all that, went to the reader, liked post, opened the blog, my like not there, so liked the actual blog, go back to reader, refresh, no like, so open the blog, my like not there, so like it again, repeat, did it 3 times, and I cannot like Candles in the wind post. It won't let me, I have the most up to date version of Chrome on my laptop, which is what I tried.
It works for some blogs but not others.

Which ever computer you opened this support thread with is reporting Chrome 24, but please try the browser troubleshooting steps on both.

We're also rate-limiting Likes currently to stop some the Splike (spam Like) bots, but the limit is higher than most normal humans will reach.

Please try the steps that timethief listed above. I notice that you're using Chrome 24, which is a bit behind Chrome 26.

If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:

1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:

2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/

3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

Please be post your step by step reports on those and be patient while waiting. Staff will assist you when they can.

It doesn't work on the blogs either, I am looking at blogs that I like and pressing the like button, then if I go back my like hasn't registered.
