Origin displays excerpts on the main page. An auto excerpt is the beginning of the text, with all HTML stripped out (so no line breaks, no paragraph breaks, no bold or italics, no links etc). If you wish to display formatted text on the main page, you create your own custom excerpt (including HTML tags) in the Excerpt module of the post editor.
If you're not seeing the Excerpt module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right) to check the option.

Hello everyone,
I´ll try to make this as simple as I can. I read all posts regarding this matter on this forum an http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/ also.
I have my poems in MS Word. I want to publish them in my blog with NO space between the lines, avoiding rewriting and keeping the poetry format in the WP Reader feeds.
I think this should be the simplest thing in the world and that´s why I am asking for your help: complex solutions isn´t working for me.
Now I am publishing this way: copy-paste from Word to Notepad, from Notepad to Visual Editor, and then pressing Return at the beginning of each line. This keeps the poetry format in WP Reader feeds but also add these horrible spaces between the lines in my blog. If I don’t press the Return key at the beginning of each line, the WP Reader feeds are shown without any line breaks (which make the feed impossible to read).
I really appreciate your help to make my blog the way I wish to be.
Regards!

It would be nice to be able to force a break in a post title.

I see where you can add it to the body of the post by adding the code through the text editor, but it doesn't appear to work in the post title.

On my post "Scouting trip: Potawatomi Trail run," I would like the line to break after "trip:" This would make the title read much easier on the page.

FYI -- Foursquare does allow for such breaks simply by adding the coding (the same coding that you can now use in WP in the body copy).

Thanks.

Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. see:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It's in the Visual editor Row 2 first position "style". See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

Thank you for your answer, but it was no solution for the problem. I surely have pressed return and I got the skip to next paragraph, white space between, but in the change preview as well as after updating the article the paragraph and the white space were gone again.

Meanwhile I helped myself by inserting <p> in text mode which worked fine. Interestingly, after changing to visual mode and back to text mode my insertion <p> was no more to be seen, but the paragraph effect fortunately remained.

It is obviously a bug in wordpress software.

I can easily reproduce it: Put some text into a new article. Then insert something with copy and paste from Facebook. Because the resulting font is different from that used before the insertion, go to text mode and remove the markup you will find there (<h5 ...). Go back to visual mode and the insertion is the next line after the original text. Then go to the end of the original text and press return. You get a new paragraph (new line with white space between the two parts), but you will never see this paragraph in the preview or in the article after publishing.

I still have the word-wrap problem with The Columnist. The only post I have on my site so far starts with the words "Under Construction," except that when one clicks on the title on the front page, when the article comes up, the title on the left side says "Under Constructi" and the next line has the "on." I've tried various permutations and adding other words and they also don't always wrap.

Also, The Columnist theme is shown on the demo under "Themes" as having cool images behind the titles of the articles. I assume these are purported to be images (or parts of images) taken from the fake articles therein. Yet I see no way of making this happen once I select that theme. My aforementioned article has merely a grey box behind the title on the front page. I haven't paid for any upgrades; I assume the version I see in the demo is the baseline.

Any help? Thanks in advance. The blog I'm asking about is DodgyQuad.com.

Your issue isn't a paragraph issue: it has to do with image alignment. When you set the alignment of an image to left or right, the rest of the content is supposed to wrap around it (that is, start next to it instead of below it). To limit the wrap-around effect to the bits of text you want next to each image, you need to add some coding in the Text (=code) editor:

<div style="clear:both;">
IMAGE/TEXT PAIR HERE
</div>

Same thing for any image or text that follows the last image/text pair.
