@TT, thanks but if WP think its users are going to wade through 6-12 pages of spam every day, mostly "lista de emails" to check if there's a false positive, then you really don't understand your users' experiences.

As with everything via WP, it's mostly free, so no big moan. It's just surprising that you can't stop "lista de emails" spam.

Am not a programmer but at some stage, can't there be a filter "if comment includes the string "lista de emails" then delete"

Staff does not (usually) look at blogs hosted here, nor should they do so without a reason such as for technical assistance.

Staff interfering with which and what comment a wp.com user approves would be a big invasion of privacy. Take a moment to consider this aspect of staff arbitrarily removing comments from individual blogs.

Akismet is not a "Big Brother" which controls which comments are displayed on individual blogs. Nor would we want him (her? it? that?) to act that way!!!

...but I can't go through 76 blocked comments a day to find the legitimate comments

@gmcgath Generally speaking, you don't even need to. Akismet does a great job of catching spam in the Spam filter. If it's there, there's a very high probability that it is indeed spam. You can hit the "Empty Spam" button with confidence to empty spam immediately, or as tt said above, the spam folder will automatically delete spam older than 15 days. http://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/

If you need some reassurance about how well Akismet is doing its job on your site, click the Akismet Stats link in your site's Dashboard.

And for the future, when you post in these forums, please give us the direct link to the WordPress.com site you need help with. Thanks!

If staff are mulling this over, they should consider that their removal of spam from a blog's comments is actually a service to the blogger. I can imagine a newbie's being desperate for comments, but he probably doesn't realize that a blog full of obviously spammy comments will definitely discourage traffic. The impression a visitor would get is that no one is paying attention, so it's not worth spending any time there.

Oh, and if staff actually decide to do this, please make an announcement about it. It's nice to let us know what's going on.

@gmcgath
Let me be blunt and inform you that I click the button on thousands every day, not the paltry number you report, and I don't consider that to be a big deal at all.

The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam and much of it is pornography? Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to free hosted WordPress.com blogs every day is spam.

Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Akismet is sequestering the spam you point to. On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to scan the pages, remove any false positives, and click "empty spam".

You don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

If you have et up the blog for anonymous commenting that does not require an email address and/or website URL then do be sure to set up full comment moderation ie. "An administrator must always approve the comment" because anonymous commenting is bound to increase the amount of spam your blog will receive. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

I just deleted 76 spam comments that tried to get onto my blog since yesterday, mostly from lista de emails. They use about half a dozen different domains and appear to be based in Brazil. WordPress seems to think spam filtering is sufficient, and I'll grant that they do a great job of that, but I can't go through 76 blocked comments a day to find the legitimate comments, so this spammer is doubtless killing legitimate comments that get misidentified as spam.

WordPress needs to block spammer IP addresses, not just filter.

My (and others', judging from other posts) wanting to block comments from EVER reaching me based on keywords such as "Viagra" hopefully shows that I KNOW spammers use multiple IPs and email addresses. The blacklist feature doesn't do anything more than what Akismet does now -- marks it as spam, which I then have to check. I want spam deleted before it gets to me. I'm not a programmer, but why can't Akismet have that feature? Is there another plug-in that would work with Akismet to enable that? I want to delete anything with "lista de emails" in it before it even gets to my spam folder. Thank you.

Note: That spammer is using mulitple IPS and email addresses but you don't need to worry about this as Akismet catches them all. On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.

For more information please take the time to read "5 things every blogger should know about spam" on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

Before anyone yells at me about another spam topic, let me say this: I KNOW Akismet does its job of flagging spam. I KNOW I can delete it or let it self-delete after a few weeks. However, I am being hit with more and more spam with each passing day, all of which I feel I need to check in case a valid comment is being flagged as spam.

99% of it wouldn't even arrive if I could only somehow keep anything with the phrase "lista de emails" from ever reaching me. Why can't we add a filter in Akismet that says to automatically delete anything with certain words? I also will never, ever be interested in any comment with the word "Viagra" in it. Thank you.

About 30,000 (!) SPAM comments have now been received with the handle "Lista de Emails" with the website address "acertemail.com"

At what point is WordPress going to permanently block these, or is this somehow affiliated with WordPress?
