Thank You timethief for your quick response.
Before implementing any of your suggestions, now I am able to access my dashboard but gets logout automatically.
Now regarding few points you raised
1. I am logging in from the front page of wordpress.com
2. I have been using google chrome browser for the last more than one year. The version is Version 23.0.1271.95 m. It says, "Google Chrome is up to date."
3. I have deleted my cache and cookies.
4. Third party cookies enabled. I get the message, "Great, third party cookies are properly enabled in your browser"
5. HTTPS already enabled.

Currently the status is that after implementing your suggestions, I am able to access my dashboard but still gets logout automatically. I am not even able to reply to above message by timethief in my first attempt because whenever i press the "submit" button I gets logout automatically.

Thanks and Regards

For the past several days, I have had problems with the account sign out. I hold the mouse over my name in the top right corner to get the drop down menu, and click where it says sign out.

This usually redirects me to the stats page. There are no stats shown, but only a 0. The toolbar at the top and the menu bars (new post, reader, notifications, etc.) are still on the page. I can click on these, and it takes me to the proper section but only shows a zero. Technically I am signed out, as I can't edit or view any private content, but my name is still on the bar and the drop down menu.

It has been a problem on and off with WordPress since I joined in July. It is not too huge an issue, but still kind of annoying. I noticed it has happened more frequently over the past few days.

I tried clearing the cache and working on a few different computers, but same results. Any suggestions?

There is really no way to have a time-out on WordPress.com.

If you link to a separate private blog, where you invite only users you choose, then it is still possible on shared or public computers for others to access that information unless the users are scrupulous about logging out of their accounts each and every time. WordPress does have some (long) time limits which save login information and it is unlikely to change that: if one could be logged in for only an hour imagine the difficulty of making a post if one had to constantly keep logging in…

If you scroll down to the forum links you might find some useful info about password protection on wp.com:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=password+protected+posts

But the real problem is actually with browser cache. If someone uses a public computer, or shares a laptop, then forgets to clear the cache and cookies, the password is saved by the browser itself.

The other issue is that people might well reblog or share passwords with others, further complicating the issue with the browser cache keeping the password protected post possible to access by others.

Hi there,

We have a couple of pages on our site that are intended to be accessible only to club members via a password (see pages under the heading 'Informatie voor leden'). The password protection works fine except for one thing - once you've signed in, you stay signed in for a long time (days), instead of being signed out when you leave the site. It would be really great if we could configure the time-out period, or give the members the possibility of logging out for themselves. However, I've looked everywhere and can't find anything that says how to do this. All I could find was some advice that seems to apply only to wordpress.org sites:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/password-protecting-pages-how-does-it-work
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-require-logout-from-password-protected-page?replies=6

Is there anything I can do to either make it possible to log out from the protected pages, or change the time-out down to hours instead of days? Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks,
Camilla

Macmanx, I'm familiar with cache issues and I'm NOT referring to or using the back button - I'm talking about navigating back to the correct page using the actual blog homepage link (title or 'continue reading').

Reloading the page also doesn't work - not before I have to manually clear the cache. This isn't a browser function problem, it appears to be a wordpress function/programming issue. By the way, it's also not an 'either or' with clearing the cache or reloading - if you clear the cache, for the bar to go away, you still have to reload the page, and as I've already stated, just reloading the page doesn't work at all.

Signing out of wordpress ought to eliminate the black wordpress bar at the top of wordpress site pages when navigating to new pages, or reloading the page after signing out. When I sign out while viewing a full blog article (e.g., on the article page, not the blog's homepage), this doesn't function correctly.

First, instead of leaving me on the page I'm viewing, signing out automatically bounces me back to the blog homepage (with no wordpress bar at page top at least). Then when I navigate back to the full article I was viewing when I signed out, the darned wordpress bar reappears. Reloading the page doesn't get rid of it, nor does signing out again. The only way to get rid of it is to clear my cache/cookies/active logins (I haven't tried each separately, just all three together) - and then reload the page. This is very irritating, because the main reason I logout is to get rid of that bar since it covers the first few sentences or whatever is at the top of each page as I do a "page down" to keep reading...and the bar take up prescious verticle space on my laptop.

I'm using a Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8, and Firefox 3.6.22.

Help please, how do I fix this??

I hope another Volunteer can help you because I don't have any help to offer. Have you tried troubleshooting?

You could have a browser issue so try changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies - instructions for specific browsers.

Note that when you make adjustments to your browser settings -- changing privacy settings, deleting cookies or increasing security -- you will need to close your window and restart the browser before those new settings become effective.

You could try using another browser.
