So instead of just using the Subscription widget, which subscribes them instantly, you want to route them to a page on your blog which will then route them to mailchimp? That's easily done, but you won't get many subscriptions.

Or do you just want a page and the ONLY thing on that page is a button to subscribe, as found in the Subscription widget?

Thank you so much for your advice and comments. I did try subscribing to the Mailchimp widget with my own email address, and it seems to have worked, so I think it will be okay, but I'll double-check with another email address.

I'll keep both widgets then, Andy. Thanks for that suggestion.

Hey Julie, I don't think you'll lose your followers by removing that widget. You just won't get new followers. :)

Smart move on the MailChimp list. Knowing who is subscribing to your blog posts - and, perhaps, even why they're subscribing - is a great way to learn more about your audience.

Personally, I'd keep both. That way you're keeping options open for visitors. If someone has a WordPress.com account, they can follow your blog. If they don't have an account, they can still subscribe for updates.

Hope this helps! - Andy

Hello,

I currently have a 'Follow Blog' widget enabled on my blog. I want to change this for a mailing list, which I've set up with MailChimp, and added as a 'text' widget to my side menu.

I would like to now remove the 'Follow Blog' widget, but I'm concerned that this will mean I will lose those few followers if I do that.

Does anyone have any advice? Is it better to keep both? I do also have the RSS Feed button, so it's all going to get quite confusing if I keep everything!

The reason I'd like the MailChimp subscribe instead is because then I get to collect the email addresses for a mailing list, whereas when people 'Follow' with the WordPress button, I don't know who they are (unless they're fellow WordPress users).

Many thanks, Julie

The solution I found is to download the CSV and upload it to your mailchimp account.

Relevant part:

>Its under Dashbooard / Stats

Go down to Total, Followers and Shares

Find the section that says "Followers (includes publicize).

Click on Blog

Then on Email Followers

Then click on Download all as CSV<<

That's not a free hosted WordPress.com blog. If it's the one your refer to then you are posting to the wrong support forum and we cannot help you. Support for your website software and any advice you need are provided on the WordPress.org support forums and they are here http://wordpress.org/support/ If you don't have a username account at WordPress.org, click that link and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the correct support forums for your software.

Are you referring to a free hosted WordPress.com blog?
Where is the blog URL please?

I'm sorry but we cannot remove followers from free hosted WordPress.com blogs. They have to do that themselves. Also note that mailchimp cannot be used on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. There are code restrictions here at WordPress.com http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/ Unless mailchimp has a plain HTML option for their code (no form code, iframe or javascript) then you are not going to be able to use it here at wordpress.com. It could be that you can get some HTML link code from them that will allow people who click on the link to be transported to a signup form at mailchimp. I suggest you ask them.
