Please see here for the description of how the theme is designed http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/autofocus/

AutoFocus’ prominent single post featured images, which when set manually are placed front and center, above your post’s title and content. The maximum width of single post featured images is 800.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options
If you don’t see the Featured Image module on your Add New or Edit Post page, please make sure you’ve selected Featured Image in your Screen Options.

AutoFocus responds to not only single image posts but also full galleries. If you would prefer to forego a large featured image above your post content and instead showcase an entire set of photos then simply insert a gallery into your post without manually setting a featured image.

Main page and archive pages on Autofocus don't rely on featured images. Featured images have to be set manually to each post. Each post on the main page and on category/archive pages will display a regularly inserted image (provided the image had been uploaded via the Add Media button of that post).

The only difference is when you view a single complete post: regular image shows below the post title, max width 590px, featured image shows above the post title, max width 800px.

Adding a header to my main blog page so that it shows in search engines?

Hi there - I was wondering if anyone can help with the above please?

I do have a site tagline which shows on some of my pages [when I search for The Modadelics in Google] but now I have added the Event Dates widget when I search in Google it comes up with those dates and not a site header on the main page. Ideally for searching purposes I would like the 'band' description on the main page to show, not the event dates.

I hope this makes sense and any info would be much appreciated!
Thanks

On the main page, Suburbia doesn't display regularly inserted images. They only display when a post is viewed on its own page - not on the front page. Only two posts with featured images in them display there side by side.

To have front page image display you need to set a featured image to each post and make each post a sticky post. The size of the featured image does matter. The featured image works best with images at least 350 by 248 (width, height).

Thank you for your prompt response.

I remedied the issue with being able to control the number of posts appearing on the main page when it loads.

I did this by adjusting the values at Settings > Reading

This did not require an upgrade to Custom Design as you have suggested, although I am sure that would work as well.

Now, on the issue of the email ... I am at a loss.

As you suggested, I checked and verified both email address locations and confirmed that I have the correct email address (same one in both sections) that was entered when this blog was first published.

This correct email address was receiving regular updates for more than 100 of the blog's first posts.

But suddenly, without making any changes, around July 18, the emails stopped. Now when a new post is loaded on the blog, emails are being sent to another email address that is not entered in either of the areas you mentioned. Copies of new posts are being sent to an email address (same ISP) but, the email address is not the one entered in the administrative settings for this blog.

Frustration continues on this unresolved issue.

While WordPress.com is generally wonderful, it is not without frustrations. Here are two issues I am having ongoing difficulty with:

    1. Setting/controlling the number of posts that appear when blog front page loads.

I did not really notice until just recently, but when the blog's main page tries to load, it seems to load unlimited posts ... which causes an annoying delay. Previously, the blog would show only three of the most recent posts on its front page. If one wanted to view more than that, they would have to click on "older posts" in order to leave the current page and load the next three in order.

This changed -- now the main page loads many posts -- without any action taken and I do not know how to make it return to the way it was where the main page loads JUST the three freshest posts.

: (

    2. Controlling the email address where copies of new posts are sent

Prior to about July 18, every time a new posts was loaded, a copy of that new post would be sent to the administrative email address that was designated in the admin settings and this system worked flawlessly.

Then, without any action taken by the blog administrator, the emails stopped arriving in the email inbox. This was a big mystery and there are several posts that are listed in this support forum about this.

I have found that new posts are indeed generating emails, but they are going to another email address other than the one I have designated ... wow, how frustrating this is.

How to I fix this issue???

Why did this email designation change, apparently all on its on???

Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide me on these two frustrating technical problems I can't seem to solve on my own.

Hello,
I have added a wordpress blog to the website I'm just starting up but it isn't the main page (http://working-with.ca versus http://working-with.ca/blog).

The front page of the blog is fine but as soon as you try to click a link, it returns to working-with.ca/[permalink] rather than links on the blog page.

I have tried changing the permalinks to a custom "/blog/%post_id%/" but it said never to have url address in that field and (obviously) didn't work.

How can I change the blog's assumption that the address it can permalink through is working-with.ca/blog, not just working-with.ca?

Cheers,
patrick

There's nothing to apologize for, and you're not lame or anything: you simply selected a tricky theme.
Yes, nothing else will show up on your front page until you have a sufficient number of posts and set one post category as your featured category.
If what you're primarily interested in is the slider, things will be simpler if you select a different theme: one with the slider on the main posts page.

lord it's sad how ignorant I am to all of this (in more than a half decade in my field I've ALWAYS had an editor to run my content, so I've never SERIOUSLY messed with this stuff).

Are you saying that automatically, nothing will show up on my front page until I have more than 5 pieces posted?

Were I to leave the blog structured as it is right now, will the site function (as I intend it to) once I surpass more than 5 pieces, or are there still some significant changes needed on the back end?

BTW, I've got to apologize for how lame I am right now. I'm not really accustomed to not grasping things immediately, which has me insanely frustrated. I thank you guys for the attempts at helping me so far though, really.

You're not using a static page as your front, you're using the special News template page of the theme. The News template page can display some featured posts in the slider, plus some other posts from a featured category, plus some other recent posts. A post cannot show twice on the same page: since you only have two posts so far, and you've set them both as featured posts, the page has nothing else to display.

Im looking for the thread (found it through yahoo) where an admin or something posted instructions for getting the slider going with a proper functioning front page, but I've been at this for hours at this point, i've literally read a good 250 topics on this ranging from wordpress forum posts to random help me type of posts on other sites regarding WP. Having trouble even finding the specific instructions I followed that enabled me to get the slider going.

Is there no simple method to having a slider and your blog posts show up on the front page when using this nuntius theme? Furthermore, is there a theme that has a slider thats easier to work with? I cannot believe how challenging this is - feels about 5000 times more difficult than it should be.

I have featured images, don't even know how to make a "featured post" tbh

When you say "i followed the instructions on how to make the slider work" which instructions exactly did you follow? we need to know. Nuntius works differently from other themes. Do you have Featured Posts? Featured Images?
