These files were uploaded to a WordPress page. But if I look in the media library I can't find this files! I even looked at wp_posts and there are no entries? How can that be? What is wrong with WP?

Additionally, why are there multiple files in wp-content/uploads/[year]/[month]

E.g. on the page I have a picture called picturename8.jpg. If I look in the media library I only have a picture called picturename14.jpg (file URL).

What is the reason for that file managment behavior? A recovered MySQL database from the provider without informing us? What can I do against this faulty behavior? The drive space on the webserver ran out of memory and now I'm searching for that reason.

We're looking in to it. For now, does your software have another way to encode these files, like possibly a "web safe" or "compatibility" mode?
