A) I sent a post without a title. The site refused it and I lost it all.

B) I created a PUBLIC blog, but nobody can post a reply without signing up to a WordPress account. This is unnecessary, surely?

C) I created another, PRIVATE blog and mailed specific people inviting them to join. Once again, they cannot join unless they open an account. However, I specifically invited them through their email address. This should surely be sufficient?

Hello -

I wanted to introduce my class to wordpress.com by creating a class page to increase communication for assignments. However, during a session with one student to create a how-to-guide, I became aware that each student would be forced to create a blog. This will overwhelm some of the students due to age, and others simply don't have time. Is it possible to have people become members and leave comments with out setting up a blog? In addition, I requested to follow the blog with a different e-mail. This blog never showed up and I was pushed to create a blog.

If every person must be a wordpress blog user, this will grossly limit my audience.

My problem is that when you click on the link, it does not take you to the article, it asks if you want to become a member.

How do you make sure the link always goes straight to the post rather than redirecting to a page that asks you to become a member?

I'm loooking for a plugin (pr multiple plugins that can work together) that will allow me to have multiple forms beyond a simple registration form, with each automatically including member ID (or email address.) The goal is to allow members to come back and provide additional information on various topics.

Example:
My registration form may include basic information, but later on, I may want to ask members to tell me which of several products they would like to know more about. After that, I may want additional demographic information (i.e. age and zip code) and after that, I may go back and ask about several more products. The goal is to create in depth user profiles to allow for increasingly customized email newsletters. I can create the newsletters outside of WordPress - I just need a way to gather all of the information.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I have a private blog and I have some issues with the handling of users.

I invited familly members to join the blog and some are simple viewers and others are authors.
I can see that they are members in the privacy page (wp-admin/options-privacy.php)

However, I assume that the page wp-admin/user.php would be to see the same list (all users) as well as check and change their status (viewer to author for instance) but in that page I only have the list of the 2 administrators of the blog (me and the other administrator)

Moreover if i look in the invite page (wp-admin/users.php?page=wpcom-invite-users) most of members who joined are still pending to accept my invitation.

Is this normal ? Did I misunderstood the purpose of the "all users" (wp-admin/user.php) page ?

Kind regards,
Xavier

Hello Seglarunt,

I understand that you want to create an interactive wordpress website that is more of a social website than just a singly authored blog. It is unfortunate that wordpress.com does not allow us to edit the PHP files as all of us are using the same theme template.

You might want to adopt wordpress.org which is even more seamless and installs within 5 minutes! And check out a better support community over here: http://wordpress.org/support/

If you still want to stick with WordPress.com, Id recommend you use WordPress, com's inbuilt Users architecture to your benefit. It is excellent and you can control user's privileges too. Check out: http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

I was working on a site a few years ago where I tied the registration and log in parts of my website, wordpress, and bbpress together. It took extensive customization of the PHP files that makeup wordpress, but it was functional. If I remember correctly, whenever a user logged in from either the site, wordpress, or bbpress, the functions to log them into the others were called automatically.

I don't think you can do that with a wordpress.com hosted blog; I think you would need to host it somewhere else so you can customize the backend code.

I don't know anything about the mapping part of your question. Check the google maps API.

I want to make a website from wordpress where the visitors can register to my website (not thru the regular wordpress register) and login to. I want them to be able to write articles in one category and would also like them to use a map where they can add locations and add comments (like good restaurants).

What do I need?
