I'm writing a memoir about my mafia childhood, about my father having made his money in organized crime, sometimes even involving my siblings and me in the process.

Check out my posts about this particular past—and other writing along the way that deviates in the direction of art and my partner's work in international disaster response. (I sometimes even write about blogging, gardening, and my battle with bipolar disorder.)

I would like to link you to a blog post I've written about this, but I just started so it might be a bit before I can do that. I would suggest trying to build up social media. You can make a facebook account (you don't want to use your main one) and build up fans via liking ladders. I've got around 50-100 fans spending 2-3 hours on liking ladders. Then, you just need to post your status. You can do this with twitter too, but I haven't done it.

Other ideas, you can improve your blog's optimization (again, i'd link you but I started this blog today) to get search engine traffic. The easiest way to increase your traffic is probably just connecting with other users. I'd advise you to go to as many blog pages as you can and just leave comments and try to get to know people. Follow other people's blogs and show interest and I'm sure they will respond. You can start with my blog! If you need anymore help with ideas, let me know!

Any suggestions for how to get new visitors? I would love to get some input, if folks have a chance to check it out...thanks!

Hello
Talks of depression and suicide are often considered taboo and both issues have a lot of stigma attached to it. That is just wrong. It's a growing problem that affects millions of all ages.

I am writing a book about my life with depression including suicidal thoughts and tendencies. I didn't think I was worth receiving help. I didn't think I deserved to be here. Now my life is completely different. I have learned the skills needed to manage my depression and enjoy this life. I still have hard days, but I am now equipped to handle them.

My blog will showcase snippets and chapters of my book as I write it up until completion. I will also include personal thoughts, links, and resources. The other 2 large components I will include in the future is a place to connect with organizations that focus on depression and suicide. The second component will be a place for others to remember a loved one lost by suicide. It is a reality and we need to address it. My blog may be one in a million+, but my hope is that it helps whoever may stumble upon it. Even if that ends up being just one person.

You are not alone. There is support. You don't need to be embarrassed. Get your life back, don't let depression take it away. Follow me on my personal journey to revisit those dark days and share with you how I made it through.

Thank you.
Anne West

I started blogging only a short time ago. I write from the perspective of someone who was diagnosed with depression secondary to major brain surgery when I was about 30 (diagnosis, not surgery - that was a few years earlier). I am also a mental health worker and have been since I graduated from university in my early 20's - so unlike many workers with depression, I didn't enter the field wanting to empower people who had experienced what I had. I learned a lot from my clients. It's a strange place to be - walking in two worlds, anonymous to each much of the time and yet able to identify with both and their criticisms of each other.
My blog is a mix of information, shared experience and poetry. I hope that anyone who takes a look will find it interesting.

I am having difficulty with providing insight unless someone has asked me a specific question. I have another blog that is more of a chat and an artsy site. People ask me questions and my answers are blowing my own mind, I think how the h-e double L did I know that. The answer is of course, life experience. I thought maybe I should take those conversations and develop a blog post through them but it seems like an invasion of privacy because these people are asking me intimate questions as serious as why shouldn’t I kill myself right now. How do I proceed sharing what I’ve learned living with bipolar disorder?

I have an idea, if you are bipolar and have a question, ask, I will not post the comment. I want to know what those who are recently diagnosed or are having setbacks need to know. I have too many stories I’d rather be useful

anonymous setting is now enabled, please help.
