The short answer to your question is "no;" if you would like more information, please read on.

The Tumblr importer for WordPress assumes that you will be leaving the content on WordPress/WordPress.com or a system that understands WordPress content if you are to export that data later.

When you import images from a Tumblr blog, they are placed into a gallery automatically and the method you are using to import that into Blogger doesn't "understand" these galleries or how they work.

We'd love it if you would move your blogs to be here with us at WordPress.com; if you need any help or have any concerns about that, please let us know and we'll be happy to answer your questions about our service.

I am helping a friend move from a Tumblr account to Blogger (long story!, but a WordPress blog is not an option ...)

Since there is no direct Tumblr-Blogger migration tool, I was advised to import to WordPress first, then export, convert to XML file to blogger format and import to Blogger.

I did all of the above: while all original Tumblr posts showed up fine in WordPress, most of these post images are now gone in Blogger.
Instead the post will just display the word [gallery], but there is no photo :(

Please Help - is there any way to migrate the existing photos from the WordPress posts to Blogger (instead of re-psoting photos of some 500+ posts!)

As for publishing on both blogs, not that I know of, if you are planning to move the site, I'm not sure why you need to double post on two sites, which will probably make search engines frown upon your sites, since they don't like duplicated content on different sites.
