Hi Omikane and kirstendryburgh,

I just solved my image display problem, I may have a solution for you both. My most recent post was copied from an original draft. Rather than edit the draft, I copied it, re-wrote it and published the new version. Though I selected a featured image from the image library, none showed in the reader. I later went into that post and clicked on the ‘add media’ button. Then I clicked on ‘media library’. There is a drop down menu that gives you the option to view pictures ‘uploaded to this post’. When I clicked on that it showed zero images because although I had images in my post, they had all been copied across from the original draft and I hadn’t uploaded any new images. (This would also happen if you just used images that were already in the media library).

This is where the reader takes your images from (I’m guessing). If this is empty, you’ll need to upload the image again while in the edit mode for THAT post. You don’t need to insert it in your post. Just click out once you’ve uploaded it and click, ‘update’. And voila, it will appear in the reader.

Well, that’s what happened for me. I re-uploaded the featured image and suddenly it appeared in the reader. Sadly, I realised a bit late, so anyone who saw my post in the reader during the first few hours would have just seen text.

So, I actually believe you can control what images appear in the reader.

I find the reader to be incredibly annoying when it comes to displaying images. I just posted a blog with lots of photos that I’m really proud of, and it’s showing up as text only in the reader...(!)

A few weeks ago I posted a blog with some mediocre images, it seems the reader selected the ‘best’ ones to show and I got 17 likes in the first hour of posting (for some who has about 30 followers, that’s a big deal). It’s just such a lottery...

We bloggers have no control over which image is displayed in the Reader.

Hi, having same problem. Was wondering if it is because the featured image is not in the post itself, just a feature page - contents of post are video. So no option to do a visual edit?

Unfortunately, as you can see from these related posts, this is a known problem http://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/missing-post check the threads for suggestions and in the meantime, if you write long posts, try using an offline blog editor until this is fixed so you don't lose anything.

I had a post entitled "12 New and bizarre fruits and roots" which published on 12th April 2013. This post had a few comments and it seems to have completely disappeared. I have checked my trash and no sign there and in any case I have not deleted it.

How can I track this down please?

The widgets aren't showing because you messed with their Visibility settings: you set them to display on author pages only. Open each widget, click the Visibility tab, set the second pulldown to "--Select--" (so that nothing is selected), Save.

P.S. Please forgive the "your" where "you" is intended. I am visually challenged and my app app does not catch those. Unless I tediously focus and examine each an every word before clicking "submit" they bypass me and I don't have the time to do that tedious checking.

Examples:
A Recent Posts widget has nothing to display until your publish a post.
A Categories widget has nothing that can be displayed until your publish a post.
A Links widget has nothing to display until your create a blogroll in your Links section in your dashboard.

I followed the directions and added my widgets, configured and saved them, but they are not showing up on my page. Is there something I missing?

Was blogging right along yesterday when I noticed it....

when I click on stats or reader under the wordpress logo at TOP of page , I get an askewed page that doesn't go anywhere.

Also the notification icon is missing between new post and my personal icon ( far right)

But I see the notification icon when I go to a friends blog and refresh.

When I go to wordpress.com I see the the askewed page.

Please help! Thanks

Missing reblogs

I reblogged a few things from the Reader, using the Reblog button and added a few paragraphs to each, but most are now showing in the Dashboard or on the blog itself, and they are not there as Draft posts.

From the Reader when I hit Reblog and enter my extra comments to go alongside the reblog link it appears to work but refreshes the page and then everything disappears.

Can this be investigated? I've read the help info and looked on the forum and can't find a solution. I also don't have a copy of what I originally wrote when reblogging.

I lost about 3 reblogs I think but successfully managed to redo one of those.

Are you using a Custom Menu? If so, don't.

They do have a couple of test posts so my just make a post is not the answer - but it is the default home page it looks like - so @RC - looks like your idea might be better

Do you have any blog Posts? You can set what page your site opens on under Settings->Reading. If you set the site to open on your blog posts and you only have pages, this is what you see; the solution is to pick another Page or to make some posts.

Just make a new Post of some sort and the message will go away

New Posts are made the same place you deleted the original Hello World Post

I am new at this so forgive the novice question;

I was copying pages to get rid of the comments function and then deleting the old pages. Unfortunately I also deleted whichever page my Home page was tied to and now am getting the "well this is embarrassing" bit. All my other pages are fine.

I think it has something to do with the fact that I chose to tie the home page to static posts but I cant find my way back to that page either...

Hi,

I was trying to edit some pages this evening and the 'Edit Page' content window is blank. It's also missing the tool bar.

If I highlight within the window, there is actually some text (looks like HTML) there, but it doesn't look as it normally does. Clicking the 'text' and 'visual' tabs does nothing.

At the same time, I have noticed that my site (http://bigbirthas.co.uk) isn't displaying as it should. The layout is merely text links, no sidebar, no dropdown menu etc.

I tried deactivating a few of the most recently updated plug-ins, but that hasn't helped. Any ideas?

I'm not aware that I've changed anything structurally at all since I posted my last page and post yesterday, so I really can't work out what's changed. I've also tried viewing the site on my mobile in case the problem was specific to this laptop, but the problem was replicated there.

Please help!
