Hello everybody,

I'm experiencing something strange while trying to personalize the CSS of my twentyeleven child theme (this was happening also when using the parent theme anyway). When I apply a modification using the CSS editor and I save it, I would like to see the changes of the front hand in "real time" but when I refresh my browser page, nothing happens. I refresh the browser twice, three times, I use Ctrl+F5 for a forced refresh and still nothing...... After a while (it can take several minutes), even if the modifications are something little like the colour of the site title, I finally see the changes I made. Did anyone of you have the same problem? In addition I want to say another thing: I tried to change theme and I used another responsive one and I don't have the same problem with this one............

As you have imported content from Blogger please enable this > Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

Try checking the the box that says "open in a new tab or window" when you create a link.

I just got started (today, in fact - came over from Blogger) and I had a question concerning links within posts. I know WP has an 'automatic' link-creating button, but I tried modifying the link so that it would open the link in a new tab without having to do a CTRL-mouseclick.

This is the html I used: LinkTitle. When I hit 'Publish', the Edit screen shows me the link was changed to Linktitle, and the link is completely gone. If I DON'T add the 'target="_blank" part, the link holds and works on my page.

Doesn't WP support that kind of html?

If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

Thank you very much for these answers - they will guide my planning.

After I've added my own logo and company name to the existing, downloaded header, can I use that whole image on a business card? That is, are these 'free' customizable headers copyrighted by the designers who make them or can members use them as part of their other marketing materials to match the look of their blog?

1) they're only downloadable in case you want to use those ones in future. You'll have to upload from your computer, so the header has to get onto your computer somehow.

2) yes, you'd open the file in a graphic editing program and add it that way.

3) yes, you'd do that under Dashboard->Settings->General, but it WILL interfere with your search engine attractiveness and probably annoy regulars, who prefer to go straight to the posts.

4) yes, but the above applies, in spades. If you build your entire site in pages rather than posts, you're essentially going to be dead to Google. And there is NO way of converting, short of copy/pasting, adding tags and categories, and then the title to each individual page/post.

Hello,
I'm brand new to WordPress (and any kind of web/blog building tool). I have some questions about themes: (1) I want to use one of the themes that support custom headers so I can use my company logo. In the WP support pages I found a list of these themes and a link to download their headers. Would I want to download the existing header to use as a size template for creating my own? (2) Can I insert my logo into an existing header, save it, then upload it w/this modification? (3) Can I set a static page (rather than a blog post) to be the default display when my URL is accessed? (4) Can I use only static pages if I want, or do I have to have a blog post type page? I'm creating more of a web site than a blog. I am frustrated about my home loan, I just wanted to get some help, and no one would help me. They lose papers, they forget I called, the lender can't seem to figure out that the paperwork was sent months ago, then they resubmit my info, and then deny me again and again! The banks suck!

I hope you are blogging about this so people can see what a hard process and times it is right now. I've been facing foreclosure for 2 years and now we understand that modification isn't in future for us, we don't qualify for it soooooooooo...

I hear from American Law Firm more than I ever heard from my lender, the lender tried to send me one of the Obama packages, but lost my paperwork, then I had to resubmit, and before I knew it, I was waiting and waiting for a modification.

PS If you are thinking about changing the column width of connections, then you will have to change some of the jpegs as well as they are repeated down the image. If you are a beginner this adds one more step change of difficulty.

(You can see from my first stab that the overall appearance is not as well blended as the original but at least vaguely approching the colours I want.)

For those of you who wish to customise CONNECTIONS having bought the CSS add-in above is a link to some CSS mods that change colours and fonts (and one or two bords and hover controls). All the rest has been stripped out so if you are a CSS newbie like me my mods would be a great place for you to start to build your own CONNECTIONS customisation by using the EDIT CSS part of the WP Dashboard and choosing to ADD my mods to the existing them.

Note you CANNOT use the @import(url) command. If you dont know what that is dont worry!

My help question: The text underneath my flickr photo widget has gone the same colour as the background and for the life of me I can't find where to change it...help apprecaited.

The search box is your friend; sometimes it will help you faster as well.

But the answer to the question is Dashboard -> Settings -> General, there's a box there that you can edit.

Also, consider linking your blog to your name through Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile

Is there a way to change the part that says "Just another wordpress.com weblog" under the header I really don't like that.
I'd rather change it to something else or eliminate it altogether.
