This is just a quick question. I am moving from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. I currently have my own domain name which is what my wordpress.com blog points to. I am moving to a hosting service and will be using wordpress.org with the same domain name. I have a lot of pingback links from forms and other bloggers to several of my posts. Will these pingback links remain the same once I export my blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org? I would hate to lose some of my key traffic locations where people access my blog from.

@jdarch1
If you are planning a do it yourself move this article may be helpful > Setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org install
If you wish you can have Staff do this for you by purchasing a guided transfer.

Your blog is indexed by Google (14 results).
Your blog is indexed by Bing (1 results).

If you wish to have the links to those indexed posts seamlessly redirect to domain URls then you may wish to purchase a domain mapping upgrade.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/
Then you can update the nameservers and point them to your WordPress.org site.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

Please allow me to explain why I am suggesting this. The reason we purchase domain mapping is so that all the URLs from the .wordpress.com root blog when clicked seamlessly redirect to the same content in the post under the new domain URLs.

The pagerank and authority the blog earned was earned by the .wordpress.com URLs and belongs to them. It’s not transferable. so what that means is the domain starts from zero. In about 4 – 6 months time the content will all be re-indexed by search engines under the domain URLs and all things being equal the blog will probably have the same pagerank and authority it had prior to purchasing domain mapping.

If you do not purchase domain mapping then all those .wordpress.com sub-domain domain URL’s are broken and the blog reverts to the old .wordpress.com URLs. Then all those broken links are there for months until the search engines like Google index them again under the .wordpress.com URLs and clear their caches (3 – 6 months).

DNS takes time to migrate, so seeing the new self-hosted site at mynokiablog.com will not be immediate after you make the changes. How long it takes to start working for you depends on your location (specifically, it depends on how fast your ISP updates to new DNS information). So, next step is to wait until you can see the new WordPress.org blog at mynokiablog.com and then login and import as soon as you can see it.

Note: I remember working with you in support. You may need to either increase your php memory limit or split the import file because of the large size of your backup.

Hey guys

I'm in the process of moving to selfhost.
I'm signed up with dreamhost for hosting and namecheap for domain name.
I did the one click wordpress install with dreamhost and it told me to create an admin name at a particular link. I could not access it as all I was getting was a blank page from my blog.
It seemed I hadn't moved the custom DNS over to the DREAMHOST one. So last night I switched the details for dreamhost.

Now everyone except myself can see a blank page at mynokiablog.com. However, I can still see my blog with all the posts.
I don't understand. This is exactly why I didn't want to move from wp.com because this whole moving malarky is so complicated.

I understand that this may now be a wp.org issue but I can't log in to that forum.
Many thanks,

Jay

I will do a search for you and see if I can locate it. I'll start by finding the wordpress.com announcement for it here as it's possible the theme could have been created exclusively for use on wordpress.com.

The themes we find here at wordpress.com > Appearance > Themes are not exportable. They are themes which have been adapted from the original versions for wordpress.org blogs, and coded and ported tspecially to run on wordpress.com software.

You will have to locate the original version of the theme coded to run on wordpress.org software for your new self hosted site and upload that version into it.

Thanks Rosclarke,

I will try to find if there is any other way to have separate email subscription for tip of the day.

http://www.planetphotoshop.com/category/tips, this is what I am trying to achieve. I guess if we can have 2 RSS feeds, then it will be easier using feedburner or any other provider.
