I apologize if this seems like a silly question. However, my boss wants to switch his wordpress theme (via my insistence and assistance). However, he wants me to do it. Cool no problem, 2012 I can figure it out. I however have never run a wordpress site that wasn't a sitename.wordpress.com site.
Here are my questions:
1. Are all files installed via web or do I have to access the main frame computer?

2. Can we edit a theme from two different computer? Meaning can I link up his wordpress database to my computer. Or is this unnecessary b/c it's all installed online?

Basically, I am not 100% clear on how a wordpress site works. I know that on dreamweaver you can connect multiple computers, word offline, then upload to the site. But wordpress isn't my strong suit.

That's a good idea. In the meanwhile, we can create a Translations page and use a translation widget.

I think it would be a good improvement if the reader could have the option to change the whole language of the blog he's reading but without having to create another blog. Just by pressing a button or something, and that the whole interface changed language. So that the blog could have a wider market to access.

Hi,

I have a Blog with me and 5 friends, that is updated Mon to Fri with the occasional Saturday post, so there is regularly new content available to read.

What we need however is some readers....We, haven't been doing to bad so far but we are looking to expand and a few blogrolls never hurt anyone.

If you like the content of our blog and we like the content of your blog, we would be more than happy to consider setting up a blogroll, because after all we could all do with more views right?

Do all contributors to my new blog need to be enrolled in WordPress.com? They are not all very computer literate and enrolling all 76 who might want to post would add a big step for some of them.

This Blog is intended for multi users to be able to post a Blog (not just comment) and post pics to the Blog.
I've sent invitations to the list of users, but now what? They, nor I, know what to do.
They are taken to WordPress main page and asked to create a Blog. We do not want multiple Blogs, just one that we can all use. I will remain the Administrator and I want to make our list of users each an Author.
How do we get to that point?? Help!!

You can create a link in a text widget for your readers to click and see the blog in a different language. You'd use something like Babel Fish or Google Translate to translate your blog, and then use that address as the link; the translations aren't 100% accurate but it's a quick way of doing it.

Alternatively you could create a second blog for the English translation; you'd translate the posts yourself and post them in the second blog. Then you just put a "click here for English" link to the second blog in your sidebar. Hope that helps.

Here's the listing of what you need to WP on a server elsewhere.

Most themes are basically you just upload them, uncompress them, and then WP to use them. Takes about 30 seconds to install if that.

All themes are written in php. You don't have to know anything about php though to use them.

sunburntka-thanks for your input. Sorry that second question was a bit misleading ... I was refering to .org, I was just curious as to how that worked. Seems a bit advanced for me at the moment.

cornell, great information ... I have my SQL available through my website hosting service. I don't want to change, but I was going to just create a blog using php, and upload it to my website, as a learning project. I am completely self-taught here, so this is the next step in my process.

and no, you don't need anything installed. you don't need to look at any themes, because you can only use the themes that are in your dashboard.

Yep, you can have any theme you like. If you have two blogs you can have two themes. You just set it on the dashboard for that particular blog.

As far as WP.org goes, the whole application is written for PHP and MySQL so you will need both of those. I would suggest you get XAMPP which is free and a simple install. Don't forget that if you install it on your own PC only YOU will be able to see the blog.

To get wordpress away from wp.com that the whole world can see you will need to get hosting. All of this is covered in detail on the wordpress.org website.

See the navigation strip running along the top of your blog when you're logged in?

Mouse over 'My Dashboards' (and yes, if you have more than one blog and you signed up for them using the same username and password, then 'Dashboard' will be plural) and you'll find a list of your blogs.

To go and fiddle with XYZ blog, click on the link to XYZ blog under 'My Dashboards' and you'll be able to customize/change the theme etc for that blog.

Haven't been able to find an answer to this. If a person(user) has more than one blog, can they use a different theme on the second blog?

Also, I know WP.org is an entirely different thing, but I was wondering if one knows if one has to have php/apache installed on their computer to use it. I noticed one theme I like seems to be in php.

I would like to have several options in language to choose. Because I would like to have my dashboard stats (about top posts, etc.) not only in russian (language, that is generally used on my blog), but in English also.

Not really. Only method I can think of is by including the different versions within the same Post and doing internal anchor tags within the Post.

I've only ever seen one CMS do this "out of the box" in the past and it appears they've stopped development on it.

And question? Is good idea to have Lang in top-level category and the rest - different catogires for each lang?

Hello maybe it's just a stupid question, maybe not :-) (i'm wp-newbie).
