Hi all,

I managed to map my domain (Namesco) to my new wordpress blog without any probs at all. win!

Unfortunately email is not so simple ... all I got was these instructions:

"Changing nameservers will mean that we no longer provide your email service, to get your emails working at Namesco please contact your hosting provider and request that the 'MX' or 'Mail exchange records' are updated to -

athena.hosts.co.uk
hermes.hosts.co.uk "

I have checked all the existing support pages for amending my DNS entries but I can't exactly understand what my precise entry should be. Surely I must have to enter more than just the above two lines? And if so, what should I enter?

Really appreciate any help anyone can offer me on this. Thanks so much :)

Hi...I did a domain redirect from http://www.camicus.com (my personal domain) to camicusdotorg.wordpress.com earlier this week. The domain redirect is working perfectly but I don't seem to be able to collect mail at [email redacted]. Oddly the email worked for most of the day after the domain redirect had taken place.

I've checked the MX Records and I think they're correct:
On WordPress (under custom DNS Records):
MX 10 primary-mail.mailhoster.co.uk.
MX 20 secondary-mail.mailhoster.co.uk.

On Xcalibre (Hosts the camicus.com domain) under MX Records:
MX 10 primary-mail.mailhoster.co.uk.
MX 20 secondary-mail.mailhoster.co.uk.

The error that I'm getting from my email client is:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Camicus (orhan) account. The email server returned an error.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR Cannot connect to POP server 72.233.2.58 (72.233.2.58:110), connect error 10061
Server: 'pop3.camicus.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC90
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

There are no C-Records set up for the camicus.com domain on Xcalibre but the A records for Pop3, smtp and webmail are:

Pop3: 217.8.240.15
smtp: 94.136.40.220
webmail: 217.8.240.67

There are no A records currently set up in my WordPress domain settings. If someone could please tell me what's going wrong and what (if anything) I need to change in my MX domain record settings I'd really appreciate it.

I had wondered whether this was just a propagation problem, but it's been out now for 12 hours and the domain redirect went in about 72 hours ago.

Don't put the A record in - it is some sort of test entry. The other entries are also probably not necessary

SRV _xmpp-client._tcp 10 10 5269 1and1.co.uk. Only needed for online chat

CNAME autodiscover EXCHANGE.1and1.CO.UK. Only needed if you use outlook and allow it to automatically find your server

BTW you should be making these changes in the WordPress "Edit DNS" from Dashpbard->Stores->Domains. You would be surprised at the number of people who try to set this up on their domain hosts name servers; once you point the nameservers to WordPress then the hoster's name server settings do nothing.

Also it can take up to 72 hours for a DNS change to propagate across the internet, so you need to be patient after making changes.

I'm deeply confused my emails are hosted by 1&1. Any ideas what the confusion is. I've done the domain mapping process, pointed my domain at 1&1 to wordpress (adjusting the DNS there - adding the ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, ns3.wordpress.com information.)
I'm not a techie and am finding this really really complicated to work out.

Hi kardotim,

thank you for your reply. I followed the link in your post, but I wasn't able to find the correct combination there.

Eventually I managed to make it work after I changed again the records from my registrar dns. I deleted all records except NS, that's probably what I should have already done from the beginning.

Then I modified wordpress DNS with the following entries:
A mail 5.134.122.89
MX 10 mail.zarquon.it.
TXT v=spf1 ip4:5.134.122.89 a mx -all

Now I can receive emails from my domain again :-)
