Howdy!

It looks as though you have not assigned your custom menu to the Primary Navigation area under Appearance -> Menus, and as a result, your site is displays the default menu of Pages, which explains why you don't see the nested items.

If you had used a custom menu, on theme changes, it is typically disabled since there are differences between themes and to keep things from going wacky, it is disabled.

Go to appearance > menus, select your custom menu in the "theme locations" pulldown and click save.

I changed my theme from Oxygen to (a bunch of other themes). Now I can't get the Menu to display correctly. It displays everything, despite the sub-menus I've nested (it displays them as regular pages/items on the menu). At first I thought it was just the theme I picked, but I've changed to a bunch of other themes, and it just keeps doing it.

I can't find the answer on the general help pages. Any thoughts?

They have apparently fixed it now. When you open a new page, the usual option for parent/child hierarchy now appears.

Thanks for reply. I would like to be able to create a hierarchy of pages, as the WordPress instructions say is possible, and then do with it whatever one can do. I think the submenu on dropdowns is just one of several possibilities, right? When I create a new page, there should be a place under "page attributes" on the right hand side that allows me to designate it as a parent or as a sub-page of a parent. But in the Origins theme that option is not available, as far as I can tell. So I don't know how to do it.

I am using the Origin theme and cannot find any way to nest pages. All my pages come out marked "parent." How do I create children?

You need to create the nesting manually in Appearance > Menus, as shown in this screenshot:

Followed the directions to create nesting of pages. Chose parent page and the correct order for the following pages to be placed. It worked when I first set up the webpage, but disappeared from the page after I tried making the Front page static. In the edit menu, the nested pages are indicated by the "- bio" hypen, but do not nest when updated.

Hi-

Not sure if I can do this w/o upgrading but would like to try :)
I've nested "Upholstery Services" and "Before and After" under "Gallery" in my Pages because if I didn't, my top-level menu would run into 2 lines (which looks shabby). However, for visiters to my site, this makes for an extra step (or 2) in order to get to the pages "Upholstery Services" and "Before and After". Any ideas on how to work around this issue? I'd appreciate any input.

Heya-
I've been trying to create a index page and organize the the articles I've written into chapters. Whenever I've tried to do the instructions on this page:

everything gets jumbled up and I have to spend the next hour putting everything back where it belongs. I follow these instructions to the letter so I'm not sure what I'm missing.
The only thing I've done is to have a blog {page} not a post and add my blogs to the page. The post page, named "home" just has a "Welcome" message on it and I don't alter it in any way.
Whenever I try these instructions, I get the suggested "index" page and the "chapters" page, both in the header/nav bar. I've seen the chapters nested on others' sites and would like to do that.

Sorry for the redundancy, but has anyone experienced pages not nesting properly? I'm using the React theme and my attempts at nesting new pages fail. The feature was working previously.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I am waiting for a reply from a happiness engineer, as my happiness has been waning this afternoon. It's pretty clear-cut how to do this, I think it's just broken. Please help, I cannot publish my site with this feature broken. Thanks!

I have a custom menu with nested pages. I made a minor change to a nested page (I tried to add a sub menu...so 3 tiers of nests). I saved my menu, but my nested pages automatically reverted to un-nested pages. I tried multipe things like deleting pages and readding them, re-attaching pages to a parent page, creating an entirely new custom menu, and nothing works. I move the nested page to the right to create a sub-menu, save my menu, and the nested page automatically moved back to the left, in alignment with all other pages. Help!

I don't see an about page in your menu at all, though. You must first create the page, then you can select it.

Go to Dashboard->Settings->Reading and select About Us as the start page of the blog.

New here...how to get the home menu to only show "about us" and not all the archive/tour posts?
I've tried looking at categories under All posts but they are all in the correct "bins"

@thebachetys, not all themes support submenus by default. My suggestion is to create a custom menu so that you are in complete control of where the pages appear in the top navigation. See the custom menu link that is at the end of timethief's first reply and when you have the menu ready and saved, make sure and select that menu from the theme locations pulldown at upper left on the custom menu page and click the save button.

Please edit those sub-pages and establish consistency between the assignment there and your custom menu arrangements. Vheck the sub-pages themselves to see if you have established a Parent page and child page “hierarchical structure” in the page attributes module. Remove if required. Also remove any “order” numbers you have assigned that may conflict with the order you are creating in your custom menu by dropping and dragging. Or simply change them so they are the same order as you establish in the menu.

If you wish you can also include Pages with drop-downs to sub-pages

I can't figure out WHY I see the pages I created in InMotionCyclingStudio.com on the horizontal tab instead of the sub-pages I want.For example, I established pages, then made "Frank" and "Nancy" pages have "Instructor" as their parent.
I can see them listed correctly on the All Pages screen, but not on my site.
