Is it possible to create a link to a file rather than a url? Our blog is just for our organisation, so our users will almost always be onsite and connected to our internal network. I would like to include a link on one of the pages that opens a OneNote file on the local network. Is this possible? It doesn't matter if they are offsite and get an error message, as I can handle that separately.

Thanks!

Hi,

Because my webhosting service doesn't allow WordPress wildcards, I had to make subdomain like this:
- make a map in the ftp root
- copy wordpress files to that map
- edit wp-config
- install wordpress
But now, I'll change to another host very soon (a host which does allow WordPress Wildcards). So I'll setup a multisite network.
But my question is, how can I make a copy of my subdomains and import them to my multisite.
I can't just move the files via FTP because when you make a site via multisite, a FTP folder isn't created.

Many thanks in advance!

Greetings,

I installed a WordPress Network and activated jetpack, then tried to connect it and got the error:

Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: token_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host. name lookup timed out

Also I tried to deactivate all plugins, activating jetpack in each individual site, using a standard theme, and then retrying to connect without success, the error message preserved :(

It looks like the DNS Servers of wordpress.com can't lookup the domain of my blog/multisite, as I tried using all of your 6 DNS Servers (ns1-6.wordpress.com) to lookup my domain and all of them failed, while other DNS Servers succeeded, this is the tool I used for that: http://www.kloth.net/services/nslookup.php

I suggest you fix this problem in your DNS Servers, or even use other DNS Servers, as the problem seems to repeat with many other people without being solved :\

Network Url is: http://wikilogians.org

Please forgive me. I am a little new to WordPress. But my company is thinking about using WordPress to redesign their website with. Now the hard part, is that one website is basically a network of smaller websites. I was thinking we could use the network site ability with version3 of WordPress and everything would be okay. Each "site" could be themed as needed and we could add sites as needed as well. Now what I need to know, is if we do this, how can we set it up so that blog posts from the blogs flow into the blog of the "main" site? Is this possible?

Hi,

Since around 3 weeks, my blog has stopped loading correctly, in that, the notification bar at the top doesn't load and the like button doesn't work. This thing works very well at my home but I am facing these issues at my office network. Even the Google Chrome extension doesn't work.

If you ask me I think this is an issue with proxy or something 'coz thats the only difference between my login's at home and office.

Could anyone please let me know the solution for this? I am facing this issue on every browser that I have installed and it only started occurring around 3 weeks back.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi folks,

I host a blog at project-blu.com/nerd and have three issues, the first one listed is becoming quite pressing. Any guidance is appreciated.

1. Internal Link Issues: All my pages and even some of my admin links keep taking me to a particular blog post as opposed to the correct location. Example: I want to go to the About Us page in the menu, when I click on it I end up here (http://project-blu.com/nerd/blog/2012/07/18/nerd-world-super-villains/). This is true for any other page links I have in the menu as well as many of the admin links in the CP.

2. URL Redirect (Site Name): I have the URL (project-nerd.com) purchased from a different provider than my host. Because my WP setup is a Network setup (house multiple blogs), I can't find a way to make my permanent link project-nerd.com as opposed to project-blu.com/nerd. The instructions for doing this on a single blog do not work for the multi-blog setup and I am having a hard time finding any guidance.

3. Network (Mult-Blog) Setup: I don't need a networked WP install on my host, as I am only running one blog out of that directory. The problem is, the only way I know how to remove the network option is by manually editing the code in the directory, but this removes my apps and themes as they are installed at the network level (you can't install at the blog level). Any advice on changing this (easily) to a single blog setup?

Once again, any guidance on these issues will be much appreciated.

Another thing I noticed. I can be any blog, and still have the grey bar, but instead of having things like "stats" there is the like button. But in the same session, I can go back to my blog, with no grey bar, neither the one for the admin or for a logged in user. When I'm on my blog its as though I am not logged into wordpress itself (though I assure you that I am), let alone the specific blog.

I just created this new user (different email, different password) and my old user invited it to contribute to the blog. So far, it is not having the same problems as the original user. I'll just have to go back and forth. Its worth it as long as my stats will no longer be messed up by my views of it, and so long as I don't have to go through the dashboard every time I need to post.

I just tried that. Same problem. I also tried going to one of my posts, and acting as though I was going to comment on it, which brings up a wordpress login application. I signed in and selected "keep me signed in". I then refreshed the page. It worked. But then when I went to another page, the bar at the top was gone again.

What I usually do is google wordpress, and then sign in to wordpress, which should log me in to both, but even though I have tried the same several times, it won't do what it is supposed to. I will try the secure log in and post an update. Thanks.
