alvinium - I'm not sure what you're asking except that I'm the person who controls the blog content so I guess you could call me Admin.

But what I'm talking about is when I put an image in page or a post, by default if you linked it to another web page it opens in the same window so if a user clicks on it they leave your blog. I wanted the user clicking on it to open in a new browser tab so they didn't leave my blog.

I accomplished that by using the steps above.

friend, just right click on it and select the option "open in new tab". or you can select the link and pest on the other tab. I think it will help you most.

I searched the forums for a way to make an image link open up in a new tab and didn't find my answer. The question was asked more than once so I think others are wanting to do it to.

I figured it out! So I thought I would post it here so it will show up on forum searches. (I don't know where else to post it.)

I inserted my image through add media.
I set the link URL to none.
Then, while I was viewing the text of my entire page in Visual mode, I selected my picture just like I would select text that I wanted to link.
I clicked on insert/edit link, pasted in my URL and selected it to open in a new tab.

Hello,

I've just successfully linked my business's Facebook page to my WordPress site, however I'd like for those who click on the image to pull up the Facebook page in a new tab/new window. This way my clients don't leave the WordPress site.

I haven't been able to figure out how to set this up. Thanks in advance for answering my newbie question!

a) To display code here, you need to enclose it in backticks (see below reply field).

b) The link title isn't the visible clickable text, it's the (optional) info that shows up when you hover over the clickable text.

c) To create a link in either the visual or the HTML editor, you type the clickable text first, highlight it, click the link tool, paste the URL, check the option "Open link in a new window/tab", click Add Link.

I recently started using WordPress and love it. Links are giving some trouble though, just simple links in posts.

When I use the link option in HTML-edit mode, after pasting a URL and filling in the link text, I get this code:
- it doesn't work, nothing appears.
my blog - Performing this edit makes it work.

When I check the open link in new window option, I get this line of code:

I haven't figured out yet how to make this work.

Can someone help me with this? How come the default code lines don't work?

PS I've read elsewhere that it's bad manners to have links open in new windows (never thought about that before, but it makes sense). However, there are instances where this is acceptable. I'm building a private blog with friends, and we have a homepage from which we need to open several links at once.

If you're using the visual editor, select "Link opens in new window". If you're using the HTML editor, add target="_blank" in your link code.

Hi there,
I disabled Zemanta so I cannot recall whether or not the links were coded to open in another window or not. If they aren't then you have the instructions for how to change them. Best wishes with your blog. :)

I am talking about Zemanta links - this sounds as if it could be the solution, but also would mean quite a bit of extra work.

I just realized you may be referring to Zemanta links. If so then you would have to edit every link in the HTML editor and in the HTML editor and add this to the image code (after href… etc… jpg, with a space before it):
target=”_blank”

I like the idea of having related links on my blog - however I would prefer that they open in a new tab/window. When I add links to the text of the post, I get the option to have then open in a new window or tab. Is there anything I can do to have the related links open in a new tab or window?

I have currently added the flickr widget to the sidebar of my site; http://www.onegiantarm.com
The widget itself is working fine, however, I would like to know if there is any possible way of allowing it to open in a new tab instead of re-directing viewers.

he he actually guys IT DOES AUTOSAVE when YOU CLICK ON PREVIEW button...

now try to understanding why all this is happening....

When you open a new tab things do get autosave but if your new tab is like blocked then it wont do the autosave thing also...

P.S.: Autosave happens if the code is allowed to display a new tab or pop up.. if aint no autosave

Exactly. From experience, you can't "Preview" a post until you clicked on Save Draft at least once, or until WordPress.com autosaves it for you.

Previews alternating again. Seems to occur when there has been no permalink generated yet.

Tried it on my mum's netbook, Windows XP3 with Chrome, and here previews are working. Checking again on mine.
