Where I am having troubles is, when Importing, I am asked for FTP credentials. Is there any way around this? her site is hosted by wordpress so the adress is like hername.wordpress.com

She has no idea what her ftp user info is and its not in her welcome to wordpress email.

I would definitely recommend trying to contact the theme author directly first, and ask if they are willing to help you come up with the custom code you might need (probably PHP and not CSS) to make the adjustment you asked about. If the theme author isn't able to volunteer time to help you, you can ask in the volunteer-based forums timethief suggested, but they probably aren't familiar with the theme and it would probably be difficult for them to help you (they might give you some direction about how to do it on your own though).

If you aren't able to find any free help in either spot, consider hiring some design help as a small job:

I am able to change my whole page to one color and I guess I could make a header image that coordinated but then how would I make the content background start only below my menu. Because now as you can tell it starts at the top of the page.
