If you left a comment on a WordPress.com site that doesn't appear and went to Spam, the best thing to do is ask the site owner to unspam it. This teaches Akismet that you are a legit commenter.

There used to be a WordPress.com website run by Support where you could test to see if you were marked as spam, but it looks like it's no longer functional. In lieu of this, please contact Akismet directly http://akismet.com/contact/ and check the box "I think Akismet is catching my comments by mistake" and fill out the form.

I think I have been marked as spam. I for the first time made a comment on a blog a few weeks back. Since I have never done this before I had to fill out the box with my name, email address and then, to my surprise, it asked for my website. So not thinking about it I put the website to my invitation design shop. My comment went through but ever since I can't make any comments on anyone's site. I sent an email to one of the blogs I was trying to comment on and she checked and said it had gone into Spam. She marked it as not spam so I was able to comment on her site but I am still unable to comment on any other blogs.

The only thing I can think of, for me to be marked as spam, is that when it asked for my website I actually put my website not my blog site. Looking back i'm thinking that is what it was asking for. But it just said website. My question is how can I get unmarked as spam for any site I want to comment on. I feel like I have been unjustly kicked out of the blogging community for a simple mistake.

Can anyone help me? Thank you!

The akismet stats are not 100% real-time. I've seen times when it has taken up to an hour for the stats reflected in the dashboard to change. I would wait for an hour or so and see if it doesn't correct.

You might have to clear your browser cache too, as some browsers hang on to and use cached pages tenaciously.

recently, i've finally found a comment which AKISMET has dubbed unjustly as spam... i didn't actually notice it until a friend of mine actually told me about the issue... she thought that WP had a problem since her initial comment didn't appear... hence she tried a second time... to no avail...

this was surprising for the reason that she already commented on previous entries but why was she marked as spam now?

so i checked out the comment manager and there it was under SPAM.. and after reading the comment.. i was sure the hell that it wasn't... so i marked it as "not spam" and brought it to its rightful place...

now i giddily went to the akismet stats to see its failure on the statsheet... but apparently it only marked the moderated comment as HAM (since i was the one who made it ham and not akismet) and not as a FALSE POSITIVE (since akismet was the one responsible for putting the legit comment in the spam bin)...

i just want this fixed as i think that giving false accuracy stats is sincerely deceiving...

thanks for looking into this

Akismet has to continually adjust their software to try and keep up with the spammers who are constantly changing tactics to try and keep ahead of the spam programs. It's a vicious circle, and sometimes when adjustments are made, legitimate comments can end up getting caught.

Akismet will learn. It may take several times with you despamming them, but it will learn and then they will not be caught anymore.

Alternately, you can go to Akismet.com and contact them with all the information including your blog URL, your username, and the commenter's email address so that they can fix it from their end.
