You can use the text (code) editor to cut and paste the pictures into whatever order you'd like.

Code for a linked image looks like this:

<a href="http://bipstravelblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/an-butterfly.jpg"><img class="size-large wp-image-30" alt="I snapped this stunning little butterfly not far from Otosan and Okasan's home." src="http://bipstravelblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/an-butterfly.jpg?w=940&h=616" width="940" height="616" /></a>

Notice that it starts with <a CODE HERE etc.
and ends with "</a"

code for an image with a caption starts with this:
[caption CODE HERE etc.
and ends with this:
/caption]

You can use your browser's "find" function to search for "butterfly" which is in the title of one of your photos. Then it's only a matter of copying all the code between the tags and pasting it where you want it to go.

It is also possible to click and drag pictures in the visual editor, but it can become messy, especially when your photos have captions because in the visual editor you cannot see exactly where the cursor is.

Best to brave the code so everything stays neat and as you expect.

timethief,
Thank you so much for responding however I am not dealing with a post but with a page and still see no way to move the photos to different positions(I followed all of the links that you suggested, by the way). On my page I basically have a line of photos going down the center of the page. If one is in say, fourth position I might want to move it to second position and can see no way to do this. If I add another photo through "Add Media" the newest image goes right to the bottom of the page whether I want it there or not.

There has to be a way, rather than deleting all of the photos on a page and adding them from scratch one by one in exactly the order I want them to show up.

Custom menu Troubleshooting – My pages are in the wrong order
Check the sub-pages themselves to see if you have established a Parent page and child page “hierarchical structure” in the page attributes module. Remove if required. Also remove any “order” numbers you have assigned that may conflict with the order you are creating by dropping and dragging. Or simply change them so they are the same order as you establish in the menu. Establish consistency – problem solved.

Hi Andrew, thanks so much for replying.
I'm still so confused :-)

I want my newest post at the top, and the manual I have (WordPress: The Missing Manual) says WordPress does this: "...you need to add several new posts. When you do, you’ll find that WordPress arranges your posts in the traditional way: one after the other, in reverse chronological order that puts the most recent post first."

And on the forum you referred me to, TheSacredPath said: "As far as posts, if someone reads your blog regularly, they are not going to want to have to page down numerous times (maybe a lot if you have a lot of posts) to get to the newest post. Blogs in general always have the newest post at the top."

But my posts are showing with the older one one top, when I want the newest on top.

So, I just wanted to be clear, that you're saying WordPress will not put the newest post on top?

Thank you!! Sorry if I'm just not getting this!

Just to let you all know, I posted this morning and all was in the correct order. It was a mix up I think, with the date/day/time dial on the app.
So all is well now.
Thank you all for your time and patience. :)

Jess.

So, as far as the system is concerned, everything is correct.

If you were writing the posts in the iOS app, that could explain the problem. The auto-save had a fault where if the auto-save failed, it would try again later, thus replacing anything that was saved or published after it failed.

The 3.5.2 release of the iOS app completely disables auto-save, so this will never happen again.

Well, I'll leave the modlook on this topic because something odd is going on. Sorry I had to work (hmm…i suppose that's why one is paid?) so I dropped paying attention to your problem. It still looks like some strange mix-up with how you schedule your posts.
