I've noticed that on my Home page (which contains my posts) I have both a "comment" button and a "reply" button. Are both of these for the consumer of my site, or is the "comment" button for them and the "reply" button for me to respond to what they say? Is the dialogue stored for others to see as well? And on the pages other than my first, pages which don't contain posts but rather PDF files, whom is the "reply" button for, and why is there not obvious way to dialogue? Thanks for answering.

LOl, this had nothing to do with VIP hosted blogs or moderated comments (comments can be moderated on "normal" blogs as well, by the way). I found the solution now, and it was pretty simple actually.

There was no reply button underneath his comment reply, but in the WP header (sorry, I don't know the exact word for this) with the notifications. I got a notification about his comment reply and there was a reply button. It was just pretty hard to find.

Thanks again for all the help.

I understand that, but it still doesn't explain why other people can reply to his comments. If he had switched the reply function off, then nobody would be able to reply to his comment. As you can see on his blog posts though, he replied to some comments, and then the users replied to him again. I'm sorry that this is such a long discussion, but I hope you understand what I mean.

The blog's owner has set it up so that only he can reply to individual comments. Beyond asking him to enable threaded comments, there is nothing you can do.

As an administrator of your own blog you can do things that readers cannot, including editing comments, and displaying photos in the comments. Readers can't do either of those things on your blog. This is a similar situation: mike shinoda can display comments to his posts as he likes.

I did understand you. The way that was done was:
(1) the other blogger ser up threaded ie. nested comments
(2) when a blog has threaded ie. nested commenst a "reply" link is found on each comment

Rather than clicking the "leave a comment" button on the post, which places the comment at the end of the column and doesn't nest it, you click the "reply" link on the comment you want to resply to and enter your comment, and it will be displayed as a nested comment.

Thanks, but I don't think you've understood my question. This is not about my blog! I have no problems replying to comments made on my own blog. This is about a comment I made on someone else's blog. The person replied to several comments made on their blog and other WP users replied to his reply again. I have no idea how they did that. Check out the link I've provided in my first post, then you'll know exactly what I mean.

We can set up our blogs here > Settings > Discussion to provide threaded or "nested" comments. We can also specify how many layers deelp to make the nesting and anything over 4 levels does not work well.

Enable threaded (nested) comments __ levels deep- Turn on this option to allow visitors to reply to other comments inline/nested. When turned on it can allow for better discussions and responses. We suggest using a maximum of 3 levels deep. Anything higher and the theme layouts may not work as expected. Note: Enabling the setting only applies to new comments since existing comments don’t have any threading date. However, disabling this setting applies to all comments. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#other-comment-settings

All you do is click the "reply" link on the comment box of the commenter you want to reply directly to and then submit your comment.

Hi guys,

I've commented on this wordpress blog: mikeshinoda.com and the owner replied to my comment. Now I can see that many other users replied to his reply again (now it's getting complicated ;-D). How did they do that? I want to reply too, but have no idea how that works. The blog post I'm talking about is here: http://mikeshinoda.com/2012/06/06/living-things-release-day-challenge/
There you can see this structure:

comment
- reply
- reply to reply -> how do I get there?

Sorry if my description is a bit confusing. Thanks for your help!
