Hi everybody, thank you all for your support and theories of why things went wrong. Now my blog is indexed as well. However another problem comes with the Google search (not in Yahoo) as it links my site with https://.. The message is this:

You attempted to reach mysteerimama.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as *.wordpress.com. This may be caused by misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of mysteerimama.com. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site.

So now people have to be afraid of "attacker" if they enter my blog, because apparently "server identifying itself as *.wordpress.com" is not a secure connection.

I contacted WordPress and the reply is the following:

"As to why Google is linking to the https:// URL instead of http://, that's something you may need to contact Google about."

I doubt that Google cares at all. So yes, it is indexed again, but noo, it is labeled as unsecured connection.

Hope I'm the only one with this problem.

Also, my site is now being indexed again on a regular basis. All is back to how it was before! I don't know what did it. Perhaps Google has tweaked Penguin to adjust for the sites it was unjustly penalizing? I did fill out the "complaint" form, so that could have been it. Otherwise, I haven't changed my behavior at all.

That would not surprise me at all. I've always gotten the feeling Google was jealous of WP.com's SEO advantages over Blogger, which have always been substantial.

And pingomatic will remind them of the entire site.

Well this is good news and bad news.

Good because now I know it's not my anything on my end that's making me invisible on Google suddenly. In trying out Chrome to fix a WP problem, I find now that I can't find my blog using Chrome.

Bad news because Google is a primary search engine and they've just wiped our blogs off. I'll definitely do as others did and let Google know what's up. Many thanks for everyone who brought this problem to our attention.

Several people have reported the same thing. Google did a major revamp of the way they work on that day, so it could well be their fault. In the meantime do an end run around this blockage by going to http://pingomatic.com and manually pinging when you make a post.

Thank you for the link. One of the reasons I never broke any of Google's rules was because I simply don't know enough about this whole process! I do appreciate the education.

@raincoaster. Timethief said that if I followed the linked guidelines, I would not have any problems. That is not true as I have followed the guidelines and still have had problems, with Google is no longer indexing my site.

Still, I appreciate the feedback, and I may look into Pingomatic, although I doubt that will work as Google appears to have decided that my site should not be included (as opposed to simply not knowing it's there). I wish you luck with your own site.

All:

I'll treat this as resolved. I think it may take a couple of weeks for me to figure how the new algorithm works. If I cant figure it out, I'll post again.

I've been blogging for nearly three years, and yes, google ranking is an issue, though my site is non profit and will never be used to generate income.

IE, I will never accept ads or sell anything.

Having said that, Google is particular about how it ranks similar sites in a given vertical category. It takes a little patience to adapt.

(hmm, reading these posts can be a bit like conducting a search on Google).

You're welcome. Neither of my blogs were negatively affected by the algorithm changes. My personal blog is a modest one too with low traffic and search engine traffic is important for both of my blogs.

the changes I noticed were all well before April 24 so maybe things just aligned nicely for at least a while for me - my main site traffic is quite modest by your site's standards - I don't do marketing very well - so search engines are my main source of traffic and from time to time someone will like one of my articles and pass it on to their friends or post a link in a sailing forum and that article gets a day or two of up traffic

The changes are ongoing and aimed at reducing webspam and promoting high quality content. The Panda alogrithm is still operating to eliminate duplicate content and has been upgrdated and fine tuned. Panda is designed to target pages that aren’t spam but aren’t great quality.

In the next few days, we’re launching an important algorithm change targeted at webspam. The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google’s quality guidelines. The Penguin Update launched on April 24 went live for all languages at the same time. P.S. Google also did a Toolbar PageRank Update on last Thursday.
