However, when I update it then view it, it shows as one of my other pages. I even ordered the pages 1-6, with the parent page being #1.

How do I tell WordPress that my parent page needs to show up under the "Home" tab?

So you need to create a custom menu (see timethief's links).

Pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ we bloggers create are static and cannot automatically update. But the dynamic categories pages created by the software will automatically update.

We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

Is the parent page supposed to show a scroll down menu when you move your mouse over it or what exactly? It's only letting me click through the parent page, and then won't show the sub page. I have checked to make sure the sub-page is published, and I don't know what to do? Has anyone else had this problem/can you help me?

Have you created more than one menu? If so, make sure the right one is selected in the Theme Locations module.
If not, go to Appearance > Menus, open the "Store" item, take a snapshot of the whole screen, upload the snapshot to your blog via Media > Add New, copy the file URL and paste the URL here so we can see what's wrong.

A tab that’s just a heading for a submenu, not a link, is created in the Custom Links module: type anything after “http://”, type the name in the Label field, click Add to Menu; once it’s added to the menu, click the arrow to open it, delete everything in the URL field, click Save Menu.

Some do, some do not. Some have a "front page" button or a "blog" button. The title of your site would be a link back to the home page, which is a web standard now-a-days.

You can add a home page by creating a custom menu and then including a custom link for your home page if you wish.
